apt-get problem (on debian sid)

2003-11-30 Thread Tim Broddin
Since some days I don't get any upgradable packages when doing an
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade (0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0
to remove and 3 not upgraded).

First I thought it had something to do with an old Packages file being
cached in the proxy server.

I then did a grep on the Packages file for gaim (which I knew was at
version 0.72) and it showed up correctly.

I have this idea that my local package database might be broken (?)
since it's impossible that there haven't been any package updates to sid
last week.

Anyone has any ideas on fixing this?

Kind regards

It's standard (straight, not crossed) twisted UTP...

I thought this should be fine for 100 mbps?

Thanks for your help

Tim

Any thoughts?

Start with checking the cabling.

I've ran into similar cases with bad cabling.

change medium type on Sis 900

2003-10-15 Thread Tim Broddin
Hi,

I'm trying to install Debian on my mom's PC. The only problem is her
Sis900. For some reason it won't work at 100 mbps. All other PC's in
this house are happily working together at 100 mpbps but my mom's Sis900
NIC refuses to work at 100 mbps (it gives 99% packet loss).

In that other "Operating System" changing the speed to 10 mbps wasn't a
big deal but GNU/Linux gives me some problems.

When I do:

ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 medium 10baseT
ifconfig eth0 up 192.168.1.3
it still gives me 90-100% packet loss. The 100 mbps indicator on the
switch also stays on. I'm planning on buying a decent NIC for her this
weekend but I'm still interested in what the problem could be...

Any thoughts?
