rep/sawfish problem still exists

2000-10-05 Thread Timothy Ritchey
I am running the unstable branch, and every time I update, it insists on
loading the newer version of rep, which are conflicting with my sawfish
installation from HelixCode that I have installed as well. Would it be
better if I just upgraded my sawfish installation to not use the Helix
Code version?

Re: ALSA and SB Live

I'm trying to get my SB Live to work with Debian 2.2 and ALSA. The
ALSA that ships with Debian 2.2 doesn't appear to have the driver I
need for the SB Live. So I have a few questions.

I just downloaded he 5.9b source from the ALSA site for my SBLive! I
compiled it (./configure; make install), and everything seems to be
working fine.

I did a modprobe snd-card-emu10k1, and then needed to do modprobe
snd-pcm-oss to get the oss emulation up and running. It was
relatively painless.

I have not updated the /etc/modules file yet, but will do that later
and make sure everything comes up on reboot.

Cheers,
tim

I've got this in my /etc/apt/souces.list file. Weird. I will keep looking at
it.

I thought of that, but esd is definitely not running on
my system when this error occurs.

I think this means that there is a problem with the gnome-sessions and/or
ORBit. I believe you get this when ORBit is not running. I had a messed up
installation with a mix of devel and released GNOME packages, and got this
exact same error. When I went back to the stable branch on everything it
worked fine. Might me somewhere to look.

Helix Code Packages

2000-07-15 Thread Timothy Ritchey
Greetings!
I have a debian system running woody, and tried to load up the HelixCode
using their installer. Everything seemed to work okay, but even though I
selected the full install, many packages were not installed (such as the
1.1.24 gimp, etc.) When I did an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. It said
there were no updated packages, and when I tried apt-get install gimp, or
searched for the packages in dselect they did not appear.

Here is the confusing part - once I had dselect update, the packages
appeared, and I could install them. Is there something I don't know about
apt-get update? I assumed it would have updated the package list. Am I doing
something wrong?
