Expiring mail "articles" in a region in Gnus?
Hello, I'd like to know how it is possible to expire mail "articles" in the current region in Gnus. I'm not knowledgeable about Gnus so I can't write it mself, but if someone has an idea or can help me, this would be great... Also, someone sent me a nice intro to using Gnus to read mail. I lost it :-( If you read this message, please, send it again. Re: anyone interested in pretty xaw3d scrollbars?
Joey, It would be nice to have an xaw3d-scrollbars.deb package. Especially if you also make packages for xterm-3dscrollbars and xterm-color-3dscrollbars to go with it. Help with diald?
Hello, I'm trying to use diald, but have problems. If I use '/etc/init.d/ppp start' as my connect script (and have no ip-up because ppp will call its own) I see in my log things like diald: connect to x diald: starting pppd but nothing happens really; in addition, why does diald says it starts pppd when the manual page says this is the task of the connect script? So I'd like to get help on setting up diald so that I can reuse most of my existing pppd setting (chat script and ip-up/ip-down scripts). I'd like to know, too, how I can arrange things so that when I mail to someone outside my domain diald does not try to dial. Yes. Yes. I spent some time modifying the Apache package so that the binary is able to dynamically load modules at startup and the configuration script lets one choose modules. The net result is that: 1. The Apache package has *all* modules, and one will choose which one to dynamically load at startup. 2. One can esaily add a module to Apache without having to recompile it (the necessary .h files are in the package). My php module package is an example of how to do that (expect it on your archives next week). Yves. -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Re: gs_4.01-4.deb and deskjet 510
I just installed the new gs package gs_4.01-4.deb. installing was no problem, but when I tried to use it with the magicfilter, I get garbage out of my HP Deskjet 510. THis filter uses -sDEVICE=deskjet. However, when I replace it with the `djet500' device (hmm.. in my old gs, version 2.6..., this was still `dj500'), I get output. Is the deskjetdevice broken in the 4.01 version, or did I do something wrong? If you debians can shed some light in this darkness, I would be pleased. I think the deskjet device is broken. There was a discussion of this (and a patch to apply to gs) in comp.lang.postscript last weeks. Yves. -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . hi, i grabbed the binary of APache 1.1.1 (ELF) from apache.org and when i tried to run it i got the message "cant find libgdbm.so" so i grabbed the libgdbm (dev) package from debain.org but this didnt have this file either. Re: apache-1.1.1
i tried using apache_1.1.1-2 and 3 from the Incoming directory and we started having problems viewing gzipped postscript files with both netscape and mosaic. i don't know if this is a bug in the apache server itself or just in the debian distribution. also /usr/lib/apache/modules/mod_proxy.so doesn't want to load in apache-1.1.1-3. unfortunately i don't really have a lot of time to look into this (trying to graduate, i guess), so i just went back to 1.0.5. if anybody would care to investigate this further i would appreciate it. thanks. Are you sure the mod_proxy does not want to load, or is it simply unusable because of bad permissions under /var/spool/apache (which will be fixed once I change the scripts to make the server run under www-data.www-data). Actually apache runs nobody, group -1, so the directory should have 777 (or 1777) permissions... Do you have a TypesConfig line in your configuration file? If so, it should certainly be removed or made to point to /etc/mime.types. Please tell me. Yves.
Re: where is compress ?
I'm trying to compile a X-Window program which provides a new set of fonts. To generate its fonts, it uses the following command (approximately ;) ): bdftopcf machin.bdf | compress > machin.pcf.Z But I don't have compress on my Linux box. I tried moving to gzip without success because mkfontdir doesn't handle gzip format :-( Therefore I need compress! Is there any Debian package I can install that includes it ? Because BSD compress might conflict with Unisys licensing of LZW, it is not included in the Debian distribution. There is a compress-package available, though, that, after you have got sources for compress (for example the compress.tar.12 file that can be found on some GNU archives), will help you build a Debian compress package, as in: % cd /usr/src/compress/compress-4.0 % make-cpkg [...] % dpkg -i ../bsd-compress_4.0-1_i386.deb Yves.
Q. about dosemu package

Is the package not maintained anymore? And is dosemu development stopped? 2. I only have Windows 95 on my machine. Is it possible to boot its DOS from Dosemu? Or should I make a hard-disk file with a 6.x DOS? In this case, is it okay to read/write my FAT filesystem through emufs? 3. Does any of you have succeeded in using Windows 3.1 under dosemu? Re: Debian 1.1 (Kernel v2.0) Questions
I was curious if it's possible to yank the Linux Kernel v2.0.20 off sunsite.unc.edu and install it on a Debian v1.1 (Kernel v2.0) machine. I require this because I use the eepro ethernet driver and the v0.08 that is included with Debian 1.1 is broke. The new v0.09 eepro driver is supposed to fix the problems we're having Any information would be appreciated! No problem. Get kernel-package to help building the kernel if you don't have it. And look in the Documentation directory of 2.0.20 to see if you have the correct versions of systems tools for 2.0.20. Yves.

A1: in the graphics section of the archive (the unstable, certainly). Also get zlib1 and libjpeg6a because libtiff3 depends on them (and they all replace libgr, so you may have to update packaging depending on libgr: try to remove it to get a list of such packages). I've seen this working with a few other } packages, since I upgraded to "unstable" a few days ago. That wouldn't resolve Michael's problem: assume I change my app-defaults file for SomeApp, just to adjust colors to my tastes. Then comes a new release of SomeApp, with new features controlled by X resources that are in the app-defaults file. What will dpkg do, then? Propose me to keep my modified file (1), or replace it (2). If (1) changes are that I loose the ability to use the new feature because the app-defaults file lacks some defaults (in most cases the app will even not run). If (2) I get the new feature but lose my colors changes. It is extremely hard to update a changed file automatically (don't talk about patch, please, this works only if the organization of the file didn't change), so the best way is effectively to make resources mofifications *outside* of the app-defaults file to keep them local and still be able to upgrade nicely. Apache 1.1.1 release
Hello, Please note that the 1.1.1 apache package, which will be on Debian archives as soon as transferred from chiark, still installs in /var/web and don't take www-data into account. The next release will use www-data correctly, run the server under www-data.www-data identity if wanted, but I didn't have the time to do that properly and there was much demand on a 1.1.1 release. The 1.1.1 package does offer dynamic linking of modules, and a PHP module will be available shortly. regular (aka bsd) compress distribution?
Hello, Is it impossible to distribute a real compress program? I know there may be problems with an LZW patent, but I don't know how they relate to the distribution of a compress program for say personal use. If this is possible I'll make a package for it. If this is really impossible, would it be at least possible for the gzip package *not* to provide a compress link (uncompress is okay because gzip correctly uncompresses compress'ed files)? It is really confusing to be able to run the compress command deep in an app. building hierarchy and to see some time after that (in my case) the fonts file that have been compressed by this compressed cannot be understood by X (starting with mkfontdir). If compress were not supplied, then one would notice that immediately, and get one (for example GNU compress.tar.12 on GNU archives or the one that is available on CTAN which in addition offer btoa, atob, tarmail and untarmail) at his/her own risk. Here is an incomplete (sorry...) list of some problems I had while installing: - When making a boot floppy, I inserted an unformated one, and it failed; I used the shell in the second console to format it and reselected the menu item, and the floppy was formatted again. I don't know if it does that in any case, or just if the operation failed previously, but in both cases it is unclear and the process would profit from some explanations. (I'm not sure the first-time user will know how to format the disk from a shell, and the dialog just asks for a blank floppy, not a formatted one). - A message saying that uname cannot be found appears while installing (I don't remember where, sorry). - Dselect lists package multiple times: in their regular sections, and at the end on the listing (without sections). (I did not use a PackagesMaster file, can it be the reason)? - Xconsole is still not anywhere. - Sendmail will not install properly without an existing sendmail.cf; this is annoying since it blocks the proper installation of vm, inn, gnats, and maybe others. - While installing ppp, I get the message `shift count must be <= $#'. - Having chosen my X server and answered all X config. questions, I still have XF86_NONE (or NOTHING?) in the Xserver file. - Having installed xdm, the xdm/Xservers file is not updated with an entry for my local server, though the comments in this file indicate it should be done by the installation program. - /etc/initrunlvl is never created. How can I correct that? In addition, is it correct to use it to check the run level we are in in the /etc/rc.*d/* scripts? (I'd like to have xdm start only in runlevel 4, for example). This aside, it works really well! Thanks. Yves.
Re: configure sendmail in Debian (sendmail.cf included)
Please find enclosed my sendmail.cf file. You will have to change mailhost to the name of your ISP's mail relay host (one that will act as a smart host), or have an alias for it. Using this config file, your mail will go through by SMTP, not by UUCP: just add a `sendmail -q' to your ip-up script (or whatever is called when your ISP connection gets up) and the mail will go out as you want. Yves. (I can email you the .mc file if you want, too). # # Copyright (c) 1983, 1995 Eric P. Allman # Copyright (c) 1988, 1993 # The Regents of the University of California. Locale in 1.1?
Hello, I'd like to have some info about locale handling in Debian. The /usr/lib/locale directory has just an emty dir en_GB in it. I tried to set LANG to fr_FR or ISO-8859-1 (which Linux should support) but nvi still does not display diacritic characters (I had it display them on a Slackware with ISO-8859-1). How can I correct that? Thanks for any help, Yves.
