Ayuda con ssh desde adsl
Ayuda, por favor. Trato de conectar desde el instituto al ordenador de la universidad (un Debian) con SSH o telnet. La conexión se establece sin problemas, y pasados pocos minutos se para completamente. Salimos del instituto con una ADSL (router SpeedStream). Puede que ahí esté el problema. La cosa falla tanto si me conecto desde Windows con putty (modo telnet o modo ssh) como si lo hago desde Linux con ssh o telnet. El tiempo hasta el cuelgue varía. No influye si escribo cosas o si lo dejo quieto. He analizado la conexión con iptraf. Tras el cuelgue, se envían paquetes desde mi cliente a cada pulsación de tecla y el servidor responde. Sin embargo, la terminal no se actualiza: sigue congelada. ¿Alguien puede darme alguna idea de lo que falla?. -- Eloy R. Que ignifica esto de firma de confianza? Como debo realizarla¿?
La idea, por lo que sé, es que tú puedes importar una clave pública, y
usarla, pero siempre tendrás el aviso de que gpg no puede estar seguro
de que la clave _realmente_ pertenece a la persona a la que dice que
pertenece. Podría haberse servido desde un servidor de claves
'intervenido', por ejemplo.
Para autentificar la clave pública de esa persona, lo suyo es mostrar
la 'huella dactilar' (fingerprint) de la clave:
gpg --finger identificación
y copiarla. A continuación, contactar con la persona en cuestión y,
tras _asegurarse_ de que se trata de ella, pedirle la huella y
contrastarla con la que tenemos. Si coinciden, seguro que la clave
está bien. Para decírselo a gpg, debemos firmar esa clave con nuestra
clave secreta:
gpg --lsign identificación
Te preguntará muy seriamente si de verdad estás seguro de que es la
persona que dice que es.
En fin, espero haberte ayudado.
Una cosilla, eso sí: no he conseguido localizar tu clave pública. He
buscado en
http://www.rediris.es/cert/servicios/keyserver/
con tu apellido 'castañer' y la huella que me aparece no coincide con
la de tu mensaje. Dime si está bien. Tal vez fuera mejor publicar en
tus mensajes la identificación de clave:

Hola lista debian, acabo de instalar una woody y estoy trabajando en con Gnome. 1. No puedo escribir: @ (esto lo he copiado y pegado) ni nada con la tecla AltGr 2. Problemas con locales: aparentemente debería estar bien (gnome sale en castellano) salida de env: LC_ALL=es_ES LANG=es_ES euro GDM_LANG=es_ES-ISO-8859-1 MM_CHARSET=ISO-8859-15 he ejecutado castellanizar y nada. 3. Kde se cuelga cuando en el arranque: kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed Kmserver: cannot connect to X server :0 connect() failed: : No such file or directory (Sin embargo las aplicaciones kde funcionan bajo gnome) 4. Y otros como la rueda del ratón (pero esto es lo de menos, tal como están las cosas) He mirado las listas y he probado los ejemplos de soluciones a locales, etc... Pero ya no sé que hacer... Podéis ayudarme (a algo, no necesariamente a todo lo que planteo), gracias.

Chavalote, creo tener la respuesta a esta cuestión, espero por tu bien vamos, puede q sea el fallo q tú tienes: Ejecuta : dpkg-reconfigure locales Esto abre el programa de configuración, selecciona los locales es_ES y [EMAIL PROTECTED], acepta, el progrma crea un archivo en /etc/locale.gen y después genera los locales a partir de el. Esto deberia funcionar, pero al aprecer a ti no, a si que: su emacs /etc/locale.gen y ábrelo con un editor como root: deben aparecerte los dos locales escritos exactamente como aquí: es_ES ISO-8859-1 (bueno el del euro no recuerdo como era, pero el problema yo lo tuve en este) cambialo si hace falta y guarda los cambios. Despues ejecuta: locale-gen (genera locales a partir del archivo, si no el cambio no sirve de nada) castellanizar A ver q pasa, a mi en el man no me salian los acentos ¡Ayuda otra vez!!! Dos preguntas por curiosidad: 1- ¿T instaló bien desde el CD? 2- ¿T pilla correctamente el apt el primer CD-ROM? Confirma si te he solucionado el problema y reportamos el error a los de Debian. Resulta que estaba haciendo una demostración de Debian en un colectivo (conocen Mandrake y Suse). Instalo el sabor bf2.4 con un CD mínimo para instalación en red: perfecto. Los compas impresionados :O Arranco Debian y X no carga, vale, arreglo como puedo las X. Entonces KDE se cuelga al iniciarse (al llegar a dispositivos), lo soluciono desinstalando gpm... Pero no he podido con las locales. He intentado todo lo que sabía y lo que he visto por las listas. Que si castellanizar que si dpkg-reconfigure locales... Una frustración enorme para mí (me he tirado muchas horas con el asunto) y una sensación de ridículo frente a los compas que usan otros linux... :( Mañana probaré tu idea José (ejecutar locale-gen: recuerdo haberlo hecho, como root, y el sistema me respondía command not fund...). ¿Cómo hago?
Hola... Recientemente tuve que formatear mi disco duro y después de hacerlo, mi camara Video Blaster Webcam II, version 1.26, dejo de funcionar. anteriormente no me había pasado esto. He instalado otras versiones del Windoes que tengo y nada, lo volví a formatear y nada. Ahora con Windows 98 el que siempre he tenido sigo teniendo el problema. Realmente no se que hacer que no sea comprar otra camara. Esta la he instalado y desisntalado varias veces y no logro nada, y ahora me pregunto, ¿cómo hago?

Problema de instalacion.
Estoy intentando instalar el DEBIAN GNU/linux en un ordenador con un Intel Server RAID Controller U3-1 (SRCU31).He construido un volumen RAID 5 con tres unidades de discos, y la cosa es que al instalar DEBIAN, no me reconoce esta controladora. No he encontrado ningún drive. No se, os agradecería que me echarais una mano, para ver si consigo instalar DEBIAN en esta controladora. Gracias Eloy Martin

Yo lo del alias lo haría así: si el nuevo dominio que te piden es 'gente.net', y vas a servir la zona tú mismo, yo pondría algo como los siguientes RRs (ojo: supongo que sirves DNS y WWW desde la misma máquina, llamémosla tux, con IP 150.210.1.1 por ejemplo): gente.net. SOA tux.gente.net. root.tux.gente.net. ( etc etc ...) tux IN A 150.210.1.1 gente.net. IN NS tux gente.net. IN NS secundario.microsoft.com. ; ;-) www IN CNAME tux Ese servidor secundario tal vez no sea el correcto, pero tú me entiendes... En fin. No sé si te he ayudado o no. Tiene una colorización (argh) de sintaxis especial para varios tipos de fichero, entre ellos el sources.list . Pero para obtenerla debe encontrar un fichero 'debian-sources.list.syntax'. Ese fichero al menos yo lo tengo en '/usr/lib/mc/syntax/debian-sources.list.syntax'. Como ocupa 300 bytes o así, te lo adjunto. Comprueba si lo tienes y/o si está correctamente escrito el nombre. Esa me la sé. Si lo ejecutas con el nombre del script
('./script') o especificando un shell ('sh ./script') (ambas cosas son
equivalentes) la asignación de la variable DISPLAY y la 'exportación' de
dicha variable se realizan en el entorno del shell creado para ejecutar el
script. Cuando termina el script, ese shell acaba y su entorno se
pierde. Sus hijos (si hubiera tenido alguno) habrían heredado las
variables 'exportadas'. Pero el shell desde el que hemos ejecutado el
script es _su_padre_ y, claro, no hereda nada. Todo se ha perdido.
Lo que queremos en este caso es que las instrucciones contenidas
en ese script se ejecuten _en_nuestro_shell_ y que no se cree un hijo para
ejecutarlas. Lo que necesitamos es el comando 'source' o su equivalente
'.'. Son comandos internos del shell y hacen justo lo que queremos. Así
que yo creo que si ejecutas
source ./script (o source script)
o
. ./script (o . script)
la cosa debería funcionar.

Me suena algo como que el autoarranque de los CDs se hace mediante un... ¿método?... llamado 'eltorito' (así, como suena). En fin... Si descubrís algo, por favor informad. Jeff: You seem to have a PCMCIA problem. After I wrote a follow up 10 minutes ago I searched where I store my old computer stuff and found a Megahertz XJ1144. I tested it on an old notebook running Linux 2.2.9 and the PCMCIA card services and modules version 3.0.9 and did not have a problem at all. This modem is not a Win modem and works perfect under Linux. You need to run pon before using APT if you are using a mirror in the Internet. If you have a local mirror (which I don't think is your case) the you need to be connected to your ISP before running APT. No need to do that. The smbfsx package has been compiled with 2.2.x kernel headers and everything is ready to go with the 2.2.x kernels. Your problem might be that the syntax of smbmount changed from the smbfs package to the smbfsx package. Best mail transport agent for a desktop PC
Hi, I am just wondering what's the best mail transport agent for a PC that will not be receiving e-mail from the outside world and will be transferring all e-mail to a mail hub. A standard installationg of Debian uses cron, which suggests a mail transport agent. In my servers I use sendmail but this looks overkill (in terms of use of valuable resources like memory) for a simple workstation. Can someone tell me what's in use out there (exim, smail, etc.)? peloy.-

My experiences with a scanner
Hello! Just wanted to share with you my recently lived experiences with a scanner. This week I bought an UMAX Astra 1220S scanner. I had been looking for a scanner that worked unfer Linux for some time. I always read carefully all scanner-related messages posted to the Debian lists and to the Ask Slashdot section of /. Well, I read pretty good comments about the UMAX scanner so I decided to give it a try. My experience has been completely positive! Everything worked out of the box with no problems at all. I installed SANE, recompiled my 2.1.131 kernel with generic SCSI support and voila! SANE is pretty cool. It even allows you to scan over the network. The command line scanimage utility is very good and the xscanimage X-based utility is very nice too. Debian has packages to convert the output from scanimage (PNM -portable aNyMaP- formats) to almost any graphic format. The scanner+SANE combination together with the HylaFAX fax software is a powerful team that allows to send faxes just like a normal fax machine does. peloy.-

WINS server for Win95 in ppp-2.3.3-5
Hi, since I installed ppp-2.3.3-5 my Windows 95 box that dials-in to the Linux box can't get the WINS server address set. In /etc/ppp/options I have a line that says: ms-wins x.w.y.z but after the connection is stablished the WINS server information is not passed to the dial-up client. Hi, I am the maintainer of the Debian samba package so the first part of this message corresponds to me... If this happens, the script will try to start nmbd and smbd (the Samba daemons) which is a very risky bussiness because sooner or later they will be started by inetd. Also, if you do the above change, Samba won't ever be started by the script nor inetd if Samba is chosen to be run as daemons. This is because the script will exit at the very top of the file. I guess you are reporting this because you chose to run Samba from inetd but you are not seeing any nmbd or smbd processes running. This is because inetd hasn't started any yet because there is no traffic at the UDP ports 137-139. Oh, by the way, I read this message by lucky change because the subject did not mention anything about Samba. Hi, Thanks, I was unfamiliar with Exide/Deltec and LanSafe. I got a lot of good hits with a search and I see they're rated very highly. We have a Deltec PowerRite 1500VA UPS here and it is a really nice product. I haven't try the LanSafe III Linux version but the NetWare version is very nice. In the January issue of Linux Journal there is announcement for the Linux version of LanSafe III. Exide's home in the Web is www.exide.com. While the UPS-HOWTO is very informative, I was also looking for a Linux oriented consumer review of UPS models and features, some Linux user's web pages with a little more up to date info than the Aug 1994 date shown in one part of the HOWTO, as well as a survey of first hand experiences with different UPS brands and models by Linux users. Well, the UPS HOWTO is written in that direction (Linux oriented consumer review of UPS models and features). Note also that there is an up-to-date version of the HOWTO dated November 18, 1997. Hi Hamish, Hi again. Sorry about this. I forgot that you had to use smbpasswd to set the passwords. It works now from smbclient on a couple of machines although my NT has gone into denial mode and wants a restart I think. I was going to reply to your previous message and the I got this one. I am glad that your problem is solved. I recently took over maintenance of the samba package. Starting with samba_1.9.18alpha12-1, sambades gets replaced (conflicts with) sambades. The reason is that in the new 1.9.18 series, support for encrypted passwords has been built in without the need for the libdes libraries. This makes Samba exportable without any legal problems. The version in Hamm right now is samba_1.9.18alpha12-1. I created a samba_1.9.18alpha13-1 that I never released but now I am planning to release 1.9.18alpha14-1, that was released a couple of hours ago. 1.9.17p5 is out there but I am not packaging that because the release of the 1.9.18 series is inminent. Also, the current alpha series have reached a high degree of stability, which makes them suitable to be delivered a Debian quality software. However, 2.0.2 will only work with kernels 2.0.x. I don't know who and when will upgrade the upstream smbfs package to work with 2.1.x kernels. Hi, I started to maintain ksmbfs that is now called smbfs. Last week I uploaded the libc6 version. However, I don't know anything about the 2.1 kernels. For me, it is too bloody to be in the bleeding edge of kernel development. I know that Volcker Lendecke is too busy these days to take a look at ncpfs and smbfs, packages that he maintains (upstream). I know there have been changes in the 2.1 kernels that broke the userland utilities. Sorry I can't be of any help at this time. See ya!
