2.6.19 in Etch? (Or installing support for 3Ware 9650SE in .18?)

2008-01-02 Thread j2

I[1] have an existing system running Etch (AMD64) on 2.6.18-5-amd6.

I currently have a GDT8543RZ SCSI-RAID controller, with six disks
as two RAID-5 arrays.

I have now ordered a 3Ware 9650SE which will initally replace the
second of the two SCSI-arrays.

But, i need 2.6.19 for support for this controller.

  I tried a .21 and a .24 from
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/[2]

But, both those kernels lead to a hard reboot during bootup (The
last thing i think I see is actually gdth trying to load. And i cannot
find anything in any log as to what the heck actaully happens).

So, what is my best option here to get a driver for my upcoming 9650-card?

That was it. Thanks!

Okay, I have a "blank" system, running 2.6.8 packaged kernel, I have
installed the source tree for 2.6.8 and I am trying to build VMWare server
modules. I get the bwlow error, and I Wonder: How do I fix this in the best
way?

The path "/usr/src/linux/include" is a kernel header file directory, but it
does
not contain the file "linux/version.h" as expected. This can happen if the
kernel has never been built, or if you have invoked the "make mrproper"
command
in your kernel directory. In any case, you may want to rebuild your kernel.

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]

That part i know about (since i run a unstable/testing hybrid as well) but i
have never seen that snag before.

What i ended up doing was editing /var/lib/dpkg/status and changing it from
"unpacked" to "purged" which seemed to work nicely.

removing a package from apt-get?

Ok, i tried to install a .deb with dpkg -i

Now, how can i tell apt-get that i no longer wish

Partitioning screwup.

2002-10-19 Thread j2
*sigh* I just noticed that i have created 3 primary partitons, and one
extended partition. The extended partition holds one logical device (hda5)..
Now, what i had WANTED to do was create a extended partition over the rest
of the device to fit in more logical devices as time progressed (Yes, there
was a reason for that). Now, whats the most painfree (and non destructive)
way to correct that, and make my extended partition fill the whole disk?
Right now all i get is "No free sectors" when trying to create another
device.

No, a SDT-7000 is a DDS2 drive. they hold 4GB of _uncompressed_ data. If
compress the data and assume a 2:1 ratio, it holds 8GB.

DDS1: 1GB
DDS2: 4GB
DDS3: 12GB
DDS4: 24GB

(above is all _physical_ data capacity)
