I prefer deb-multimedia, from far.

Of course you should be aware that if you report a bug to debian and

getting it looked at.

Official Debian recommends not to use deb.multimedia. It is not

Yes but, in the past, some multimedia packages were not available in

multimedia packages are now in Debian sid/testing repos. So I dont use

Maybe it is a "lpr" option:

It depends on many paramaters, for example, postcript printer or not
postscript. In my case, postscript printer, with applications like
evince, firefox, etc..., printing works same way with CTRL+P, then
choose -> page handling -> 'fit to printable area' or 'shrink...' or
'none...'. I think it is the same for non postscript.

Can't reinstall all Jessie packages

I can't reinstall all Jessie packages this way
dpkg -l | awk '/^i/ {print $2}' |xargs apt-get --reinstall install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2792 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 0 not
upgraded.

Need to get 0 B/1,700 MB of archives.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.
E: Couldn't configure perl-base:amd64, probably a dependency cycle.

I get the same using
aptitude reinstall '~i'
But I can reinstall perl-base separately
If I hold perl-base, other packages like systemd-sysv,then install-info,
etc..., can't be configured too

I found an other way to reinstall all packages, one by one. It works but
it takes a very long time:
'for i in $(cat /root/DPKG/packages-list.txt); do apt-get install
--reinstall "$i"; done'

Any idea? Thanks

Debian and Enlightenment packages

2014-09-30 Thread maderios

Hi
Some questions/thought criticism not very optimistic about Debian,
Enlightenment and EFL
I discovered that Debian maintainers highlight an outdated Enlightenment
page with an outdated version, the 18-RC2 dated December 2013 and
presented as "A new upstream release"

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/e17
http://download.enlightenment.org/releases/enlightenment-0.18.0-rc2.tar.gz

In fact, right Enlightenment download page is here , with more advanced
or stabilized packages:

http://download.enlightenment.org/rel/apps/enlightenment/
http://download.enlightenment.org/rel/apps/enlightenment/enlightenment-0.18.8.tar.gz
http://download.enlightenment.org/rel/apps/enlightenment/enlightenment-0.19.0.tar.gz

I don't really understand the process of Debian maintainers about
Enlightenment packaging. Or rather, I begin to think Enlightenment
doesn't interest many people or/and there is a lack of maintainers ...

In addition, a bug report 760038 subsequently canceled by its author
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=760038#25
"Yesterday I did a year apt-get dist-upgrade for Jessie All which fixed
the problem."

[---> Funny, there was no upgrade E17 upgrade..! ]
led the Debian maintainers remove E17: "Marked for autoremoval on 12
October: 760,038" without rectify later

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/e17

I asked a question here enlightenment-us...@lists.sourceforge.net
about the obsolescence of the page
http://download.enlightenment.org/releases/
I got answer from Carsten Haitzler, lead developer of the Enlightenment
project :

"it's not a web page. it's just a director in the filesystem is
download.enlightenment.org - we are not the removal removing dir so as
to not break old
build scripts That May Rely on old releases fetching Where They Were. we
Moved

new releases to the rel / dir is download.enlightenment.org "
#Message end

It is therefore not a download page to use but it is presented as such

Hi
Remember that Debian testing is just...testing, so not stable.
You are not obligated to use it.
You have the choice, Wheezy / stable works well.

If you're really keen on using it Right Now instead of waiting to see if
they're going to include it as part of the Debian distribution at some
point, the nice folks at MariaDB do have a package repository for Debian
systems that you can add to your system and then you can use apt-get or
whatever to install it. Their website provides instructions on how to
do this.

Hi
About *I downloaded and installed official .deb from Mariadb site*, I
have not been clear enough, sorry : I added official Mariadb .deb
repository to download packages:

deb http://mirrors.linsrv.net/mariadb/repo/5.5/debian wheezy main

export vs. save_A plug-in for those who still don't like the new Gimp-2.8 Save/Export

Hello,

it has now been months that Gimp developers seem to have decided that
their "product vision" in Gimp2.8 (debian/unstable) is more relevant
than the workflow of their users.

People who use Gimp *a lot* keep clicking "Save as" instead of "Export"
because that is what they're used to. Because it is natural.

If you think that it is trivial to make that workflow mistake over and
over - then you are a casual Gimp user and can stop reading.

If you use Google and search for "export save gimp" you can witness what
happens when marketing takes over the development.

The save vs. export change annoys me as well but I think staying with an
older version is not the right approach because sooner or later you will
miss new features (e.g. when operations can be computed on the GPU
instead of CPU this will often mean a huge performace gain which will
probably only be available to new versions or new file formats need to
be imported properly).

I rather try to get old behaviour back with a new version: An attempt
could be editing the keyboard shortcuts: Export and Save keep being two
different actions but when one (like me) saves as PNG in most cases, it
does not hurt to swap the keyboard shortcuts for "Export" and "Save" to
get the expected behaviour more often and only press CTRL-E with the (at
least in my usecases) less often used XCF.

The best solution, of course, is to join GIMP and add a configuration
switch to re-enable universal "Save" and "Save as" but I do not know, if
such a patch might be rejected due to the "marketing" mentioned above.

Hi
Plugin save-export-clean.py works well. Thanks to Akkana Peck.

The APIC is used for sophisticated interrupt redirection, and for
sending interrupts between processors. These things weren't possible

Ce bug n'est pas listé ici

On peut se demander donc si ce bug est un bug
J'ai essayé pas mal de choses dont
mysqlcheck -p --auto-repair --all-databases

J'ai tenté l'install de digikam experimental mais il veut désinstaller
kipi-plugins, donc exit...

Merci pour toute info, retour d'expérience...

With priority up to 100, the packages from experimental will not be
upgraded with a normal upgrade command, but the packages will need
explicit upgrade requests.

As packages from experimental are experimental and may break your system
without warning, requiring you to explicitly request upgrades of such
packages seems like a good idea to me.

I agree with you. I never tried to install system packages from
experimental. Too dangerous. In the past, I tried to install
experimental digikam but it didn't work... When I need some programs or

It is unable to pass data from one place (say the harddisk)
to another (say a CDROM), without drowning it in errors.
I think some pathways in the motherboard is broken, so I want to
replace it. BUT most of the motherboards on the market doesn't
have an old-style BIOS, they've got the UEFI-thing. So the question
is; can I replace my motherboard with one infested with the UEFI-thing
and get a Debian install to work on it ?

Hi
I bought uefi motherboard 1 year ago. It works well with squeeze weezy
and sid. "UEFI" changes nothing.

Greetings

Hi

Yes, I thought at first that we could arrange the problem and recoverer
"a normal situation", that of gimp-2.6 and other text/picture editors,
with reassigning shortcuts. I tried everything. Impossible.
The problem is not some "hate" or some adaptation to new behavior. Gimp
2.8 is not unusable for me. It may be usable by non professional people.
This not my case.

So back to 2.6 version

"Save" and "save as" are different

Save= save the same file (same name) after modifying this file

I use only one key to do it: "s"
It takes 1/5 second

Save as= save this file with another name, another extension
Ex2: I open house.png, I change contrast, luminosity, I delete some

house-2 because it's a different version.

I use only one key to save it under "house-2.png": "u"
Ex3: I open house.png. I need .xcf version to build a new image with
layers, etc.

I use only one key to save it under "house.xcf": "u"

Very quick and simple

For me, "export" word is useless and confusing. Export to what? To
jpeg, png, xcf, tiff ? It depends on the file where you start.

You could start with a jpeg and want to export to .xcf, or the contrary
"Save as" function is clear: only one key to use and you change only the
extension or file name. It's the gimp-2.6 behavior.

Off topic Gimp-2.8_Save and save as bad behavior

2012-08-11 Thread maderios

Hi
I posted this message on the Gimp user list
gimp-user-l...@gnome.org
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list/2012-August/date.html

Hi
This message is addressed to developers.
New Gimp-2.8 would be a good tool but it is unusable for me. Example: I
use, hundreds of times per hour, the functions "save" and "save as",
indifferently on .png. xcf or .jpeg. To this end, I set two keyboard
shortcuts with one finger: save=s and save as=u. So I can save lot of
time. With version 2.8 , it's impossible . I'm professional. My job is
to work on images and I can't lost my time. Sorry...
So back to Gimp-2.6. I compiled it on Debian Testing/Wheezy (after
downgrading gegl and babl) and it works well.
This is very annoying. It would be nice to recover ergonomics and
traditional functions "save" and "save as" in Gimp-2.8.

At least give the user the choice
Thanks for your work.
Best regards
Maderios

Yes, KMS can be disabled (and so nouveau) but after that, you should get
the VESA driver (unless "nv" is still available) or "fb".

KMS is a requirement to use nouveau, or so it says here:

http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/

Does Matrox provide an open source driver? If no, have you contacted
them to update it?

Me& many users contacted Matrox. They dont'care

They don't want to sale their new cards
Free matrox driver (mga) works well with "G" Matrox series.

The problem is present with vesa, nouveau, nvidia and matrox...

Err... sir, you said that nouveau did work, can you clarify that? It
works or it doesn't work?

Explanation: Nouveau can use framebuffer, others drivers don't use
framebuffer.

But framebuffer (fb) is not a nouveau thingy. Radeon and intel drivers
can make use of it, too.

My monitor is a LCD (EIZO SX2462W). I tested with another monitor, an
old CRT and I got same problem.

This is not a display problem, I guess, but a driver issue.

May be it's a problem with sandy bridge support. I got other new
problems since I changed hardware:
- irq conflict (I had to disable firewire to eliminate the bug)
- problem with usb keyboard before booting with grub menu interface
after changing kernel: no key board, I have to do one or several
"reset" to recover keyboard.

Those problems seems to be totally unrelated with the messing of the
console.

But the main problem here is that you can't open a bug report for nvidia
closed drivers... well, you can, but I guess it will be ignored. So your
only chance is by testing with another driver version and see how it goes
(if you don't want to break you current system, you can test a different
set of driver from a LiveCDs).
Vesa driver I used with 2 different graphic cards is also affected by
the bug on my new HW. With my old HW, all was fine (as vesa can work)
when I used this driver, so I don't think this bug may come from closed
nvidia driver. Perhaps, recent sandy bridge platform is not well
supported by linux, right now ?

Thanks for your answers
Greetings
Maderios

X bother consoles

2011-06-20 Thread maderios

Hi
After changing my hardware, a curious problem appeared with Wheezy and
Squeeze.
When starting X from a console, the space of the other consoles seem
"zoomed": the bottom of the console is not visible but I can always
return the data from the keyboard, "blindly".
The command 'setupcon' restores the normal console but when I restart
X, console is disturbed again. The graphic card is a Nvidia Quadro600 so
I tested kernel mode setting with the driver 'Nouveau': no problem. The
console doesnt seem disturbed because of the framebuffer . By cons,
as I have not intend to use Nouveau driver, I would like consoles back
normal. I tested also with another graphics card (MatroxP690, vesa
driver), same problem.

I dont understand how X server can change the consoles display.
Thank you for any help, ideas / suggestions on this oddity.
Maderios

/run support hasn't migrated to testing yet, so this is expected.

Strange
I got /run support this way:
debootstrap wheezy ./ http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian

Hi
I sent the log in attachment..

True! Sorry, I somehow missed it.

Am I the only one concerned? I doubt it .. How are things going with
you? Is there a solution? Thank's for any help PS: udev does not
appear in the log of the boot of Squeeze and the machine is not slowed
down at all

You will have to provide more data. I'm with Wheezy and have no
problems nor had noticed any regression (slow down) when booting :-?

I think my last message was rejected as spam, so I post it again. My
hardware is recent (sandy bridge)
The machine is not not slowed down on the boot but later, when using
Digikam for example. I've no udev problem with Squeeze.

You mean it becomes slow when you connect your camera and open Digikam or
just becomes irresponsive as soon as you open the application?

I posted the boot log /var/log/boot here: http://pastebin.com/v8AsbG96

Wow... udev is very verbose. There are some warnings printed out but I
don't think they're fatal. Besides the verbosity I see no other errors,
but maybe it's worth reporting.

Anyway, it is not clear to me the relation you see between udevd messages
at boot and the slowness you experience later :-?

Greetings,

Hi
I discover I've no /run directory in my Wheezy.
I installed my first Debian 11 or 12 years ago (it was a "Potatoe") and
then I updated every year. Squeeze has no /run directory for udev and
the update from Squeeze to Wheezy didnt create /run. I thought it's time
to install a new Debian/Wheezy. It's done (with Debootstrap). Now,
I've no problem with udev but with nvidia driver.

 Trivial problem, routine .
Thanks for your answer
Greetings
Maderios

bug udev avec Wheezy

2011-05-30 Thread maderios

Bonsoir
"normalement" performante.

X and console problems

2011-04-15 Thread maderios

Hi
After changing my hardware I got problem that seems coming from X server
(Squeeze Debian / stable).
When I stop X session, consoles are useless. The cursor is blinking.
When I type a command, it does not appear but if I hit 'enter ', it is
launched. So, I can restart X or MC for example. If I want to get a
normal console as root, I have to reconnect as root on a new console
that becomes unusable after relaunching X.

If I'm not running X after boot, consoles work normally.
May be helpful: when I exit X, I get this message on console:
'setting MTRR (base = 0xd000, size = 0x100, type = 1 invalid
argument (22)'
Another problem: when I activate xscreensaver (with xset for example), I
lose monitor signal (Message: "no signal, check input signal") with X
and I have to go through the console with F7 or F8 to get X.
My Matrox P690 graphics card doesn't not with the driver (MTX) from
Matrox, so I start X with the vesa driver without xorg.conf, waiting to
resolve the Matrox problem (Matrox driver (mtx) for P690 is out of date
and is not free.).

Thanks for any help.
M
