K3B equivalent for GNOME

2004-09-16 Thread michael . sherman
I want to try and use GNOME after sometime with KDE.
And I was wondering if there was a GUI equivalent of K3B for the GNOME
desktop.

Thanks
Mike

I tell exim to listen on another port?

Thanks in advance.

VNC help

2004-08-27 Thread michael . sherman
Hi.
I have a question about VNC.
I am running the realvnc on my sarge. I am able to connect from Windows
machines using the vnc viewer, but some machines need to use the browser. I
don't seem to be able to access the vncserver using my netscape. Is it
something in the inted.conf file that I need to add?

Thanks in advance.
Michael

no sound on Sarge

2004-08-18 Thread michael . sherman
Hi all.

I have installed Sarge (2.6 kernel) on one of my machines and I get no
sound. The sound card is onboard, here is the line generated by the lspci
command
- :00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA AC'97 Audio
(rev 02)

and I also did the lsmod to see if modules for sound are loaded
i810_audio 30228 0
ac97_codec 16908 1 i810_audio
soundcore 9696 2 snd,i810_audio

what could it be?
Thanks in advance

Progeny

2004-08-09 Thread michael . sherman
Is anyone here using Progeny?

If yes how does it compare to Sarge. I know the installer is easy.
How's the usability out of the box? Sarge is pretty nice and fast but it
takes a while to set it up (for me at least). Will it be free (money-wise)?
What kernel(s) will it include?

Mike

sound settings Sarge - KDE

2004-08-09 Thread michael . sherman
Thanks for help with my sound Matt.

I got my sound working, however every time I log in onto KDE, I have to
adjust the volume. Why would that be?

sound problem

2004-08-08 Thread Michael Sherman
Hello all.

I've recently installed Sarge with the new installer,
I am using the 2.6.3-1-386 kernel, I selected linux26
during installation.
I have a CMI8738 sound chip on board and the OS seems
to be able to see it - I checked the dmesg, and that
what it says "cmpci: found CM8738 adapter at io 0xe400
irq 5 ", however I don't get any sound, neither when
KDE boots nor I can play CDs. I added myself to the
audio group, so that is not the problem.
Any tips?

Thanks in advance
Michael

DHCP problem

2004-08-07 Thread michael . sherman
Hello.

I am a relatively new user of Debian and I couldn't figure this one out.
I have 2 machines running Sarge, both configured to use DHCP. At boot time
both for some reason acquire the same address (192.168.102.100) from my
router. Is there a way to force at least one of them to get a different
address?

Thanks in advance,
Mike
