Selecting default selections in the debian installer will be the best option most of the time. Just make sure that you do not select the entire disk for installation. When I do an install, I select only the minimal install, (a basic text only sysem, with no graphics) which is between 500 to 750 MB of installed space, and around 200MB downloads. The installer will ask me to reboot after this. After reboot, I run "aptitude" as root, and select the packages I want. Since you will be using a CD, this should not be a problem, and you should have a fulfledged debian desktop system in about 30 minutes. -- Mahesh T. sendmail local delivery problem
We are running a LAN. E-mail clients are Win95 Eudora. Mail Server is a Linux box running sendmail 8.8.8. We have a server in USA from where external mail is routed to our linux box. The problem is that even local mail is being routed to the USA server and then coming to the respective mailbox, whereas it should be delivered locally instead of going to the USA server. There are two X-clients for Win. You will find them at 1) www.microimages.com This is a free Win95/NT server. 64 Kbps Leased connection - HELP
I run a corporate intranet on a Linux server. Browsing is accomplished thru an apache proxy and dialup connection. We are expecting a 64Kbps leased connection ( 16 static IP addresses ) any day. Thanks to all who responded. The Mix server works just fine. In fact Netscape on X works faster than on Win. I teach UNIX. My assignment was to port an entire syllabus from SCO to Linux. I have started by installing just a simple Slackware to teach shell scripting, C, C++, and elementary Perl. Next comes introductory Motif. I think the lesstif + Mix server should do that trick. You are probably using a plug and play network card. So you will have to boot into DOS and the warmboot into Linux using Loadlin, or you will have to use something called isapnptools. Hi, I am installing debian linux from CDROM. My CDROM is panasonic CR-562 CDROM. I select the "sbpcd" module. Is that correct? When the system boots, the busy light in CDROM flashes. But when I use "dselect", it ask me the block device name. How do I answer it? And when I use "mount" command, it doesn't show CDROM is mounted. What's happened? Hung-Ta Pai
