Re: A lot of noise in my sound card...
Hi friends! Well I changed my /etc/modprobe.d/sound from this: alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 options snd-intel8x0 index=0 for this: alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 options snd-intel8x0 index=0 id=i810 buggy_irq=1 And, I booted my computer in single mode and I removed every snd kernel module and intel8x0 module according Richard's reply. Well, unfortunnely, my problem is not solved. But I found something strange now. After those changes, in the text mode my sound carding is working fine. But when I log in Gnome, open a terminal and play same mp3 file using mpg123 the noise come back again. :-( Any suggestion for me? A lot of noise in a intel sound card
Hi friends, I bought a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop and I installed Debian sarge on it. For now, everything is working, except the sound card. The driver I am using is intel8x0. Well, a read a lot of things on the Intenet about this driver and I did a lot of them but my problem is not solved: when I boot my computer and try to use my sound card I get a poor quality sound with noises. I blacklisted intel8x0m module in /etc/hotplug/blacklist according I read in a tons of maillist archives but this not solve my problem. To get a good quality sound I need to run alsaconf every time I reboot my computer. I have noticed a small difference in lsmod output between after a reboot and after run alsaconf. I am using Debian sarge with kernel 2.6.8-2-686. Can anyone provide me some help or hint to solve this? About Debian patch kernel packages.
Hi friends, I need to apply the grsecurity patch and compile a new kernel for a server. In this server, I am using a kernel image from the 2.6.8 version. Then, I downloaded both the kernel-source-2.6.8 package and the kernel-patch-grsecurity2. But I am not able to apply the kernel patch because in the kernel-patch-grsecurity2 package there are not any diff files to kernel 2.6.8, just for other versions like 2.6.11, 2.6.10 and 2.6.7. What do I want to do to resolve this problem?! Can anyone help me, please?! Regards, Jansen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Hi all, I must compile my kernel to support ACPI and other features. But, when I untar the kernel-source Debian package and run "make menuconfig" many features enabled in my working are disabled. Thus, I must re-enable all these features again. Is there any way to me get the ".config" default file including the standard options to my kernel? This way, I can mark just the new features. Ok, when I removed these modules and install they again using the follow commands, cdrecord works fine: rmmod sg ide-scsi modprobe sr_mod sg ide-scsi After, I inserted theses lines in my /etc/modutils/actions and ran update-modules command: pre-install sg modprobe sr_mod pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd But, when I reboot my system, cdrecord doesn't work again. He did it for the first UNIX system, running on the DEC PDP-7. It was an experimental language. B was inspired on BCPL (Basic Combined Programming Language), by Martin Richards. BCPL was a simplification of CPL (Cambridge Programming Language). Dennis Ritchie wrote C, and then published a book, co-written by him and Kernighan, which described C to the masses. Kernighan took care mostly of the first part (explaining, examples, etc.), and Ritchie of the second part (reference and interfacing with Unix). This book was called "The C Programming Language". It is now known as K&R because of it's authors (not because of the authors of the C language). Note that there are two editions: first (K&R1) and second (K&R2). The code given in the original reply was in K&R style, the style used by K. and R. on the first edition of the book. Then came ANSI C, a standardization of the language. K&R2 was published to comply with the standard. ANSI C (and K&R2) used a new style in several points of the language. One of the style changes was the modifcation of the function declaration syntax. The problem may be common to RedHat and Debian, but it may as well don't. Anyhow, RedHat 7.0 is very broken... Don't rely on it. Test the ssh client you are using with another Linux machine to see if you have the same problem. If you have, it's probable that the problem is either a bug or a misconfiguration in your ssh client. From Potato to Woody.
Hi.. I believe that this must be a FAQ, but here it goes anyway... How can I upgrade from Potato to Woody? I'm thinking of doing the following: 1) change all the lines in sources.list from stable to woody; 2) running "apt-get update"; 3) running "apt-get dist-upgrade". But I'm not sure if this is the correct solution.. Any hints? Thanks... It must be running in order to make RPC calls. Not understandeable, huh? Well, it's used mainly by NFS (Network File System). Port 515 is used by the lpd(8) daemon. Once again, from the manpage: Lpd is the line printer daemon (spool area handler) [...] Which means that lpd is used for printing. If you don't have a local printer and you're not printing to a remote (network) printer using this protocol (SMB/Windows printers are handled by Samba/whatever), you can probably remove the "lpr" debian package. Hi... Just to ask you a question: is there a way to specify which users may start the X window system? The Xserver file in /etc/X11 allows you to limit the access to X only to users on the Console, but is there a way of doing this on a user base? I still want my users to be able to use the X clients with a server on other machine.. I just want to limit the access to X11R6 on my machine... Just another thing... I'm unsubscribing debian-user.. The traffic is too much for me to be able to read any of it... I'm thinking of subscribing the digest version of the list.. Is it any good??? Thanks... I heard that Patrick Dahiroc wrote this on 04/11/00: > i'm curious to know how ifup/ifdown does it's magic. how do > i get the source code for these using apt-get > Well, first you need a deb-src line in your /etc/apt/sources.list: deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free Next, just use apt-get to fetch netbase' source: apt-get source netbase You'll end up with three files in the current directory (a .diff.gz, a .dsc and a .orig.tar.gz) plus a directory (in this case called netbase-3.18)... Then, cd to netbase-3.18/ifupdown and there you have it! ifup and ifdown are the same program. When called as ifup, it gets an interface up. When called as ifdown, it brings down the interface.. Instead of using adduser (which I don't use), use useradd (I can give you more advice on that)... useradd doesn't create a home directory for the user by default. If your is configured to do so, you can always use the "-M" flag (don't create a user home directory). Another thing: I guess that it would be nice (for ease of administration) to create a group for mail-only accounts. The preparation of your system: i) Create a mail-only group: groupadd -g 200 mailuser The procedure to create mail-only users would be this one (you can include it in a shell script): i) Create the user: useradd -M -g mailuser -s /bin/false ii) Enable the account: passwd I don't know if there is any "correct" way to do this, it's just an idea.
