flgrx issue, probably related to two radeon chipsets
hello, i'm having a big trouble with installing proprietary radeon driver. my motherboard has X200 radeon chipset, but i'm using HD 3470 pci-e card. lshw recognizes both cards. bios is set to use pci-e device as primary, but despite that fact installing fglrx from the repos or using downloaded driver fails with "no supported adapters detected". however x200 is not supported by fglrx driver, hd3740 is. is that possible, that driver recognizes only onboard device without checking any further slots? thanks for suggestions /t
debian live username and password
hi, it's strange but debian-live-lxde stable does not login automaticly, when run from usb hdd. i've installed it on a stick with LiveUSB Install. instead gdm requires username and password. unfortunetaly any combo of username and password 'live' and 'user' do not work. i've done really detalied query of this problem on google and nothing seems to be an answer, moreover i'm not the only person with same problem. is there a way of creating user accounts through manually edited configure files located on usb stick? cheers ./t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". iceweasel plugin-container, flashplugin, and gnome3 issue
hi, i've just installed gnome shell on my debian testing. everything seems to be ok but flashplugin-nonfree makes my machine choke completeley with plugin-container consuming more than 70% of CPU. i never had such issue before migrating to gnome3. problem occures while watching youtube and other online media. didn't checked chromium yet, but anyways i wont be using it in a long run still no satisfying answer found on google, so i'm asking for help. thanks in advance /t p.s. chromium consumes up to 50% of CPU so it's still far from good.

system menu gone on wheezy+gnome 2
system menu is gone on both of my machines after last week update. this bug seems to me so absurd that i don't even know how to deal with it. both apps and places menu are unaffected. i can't change it with menu editor anyway. same problem anyone? any clues? cheers /t

And you can bookmark your network shares for an easy access, they > will appear listed in the left side panel. > > yes i know, i've also experimented with adding shares to fstab through cifs, and static ip number. and it was kinda successful but not exactly what i want. but that is not the point. probably misuderstanding comes from by bad english. i'll put it this way: by default, process of browsing samba shares requires: 1. opening networks 2. choosing workgroup if more than one 3. choosing computer if more than one 4. opening desired folder ofc you can make shortcuts to make thing easy. problem with such method: 1. refreshing shares after reboot of 'server' machine 2. repetition of mentioned process every time new computer connects to network and now my caprice: 1. every time i connect to a network (at friend's house or in my house with occasional other's people computers) i can see listed all shared folders in the left panel of nautilus without former creating shortcuts. 2. the list refreshes every time new machine connects or disconnects 3. ability to work with dynamic ip's not just static as with cifs (i can be wrong just individual experience) just as it works in macos leopard, and does not on any linux distro i've used. it's just important for me because as a hobbyst musician i work with large files which i transfer between different people and machines on diverse networks, and copying those files with portable hdd is just onerous. i hope i made things clear all the best /t ps, sorry for the mixup with notion of mounting, but any time i open public shared folder cairo dock notifies me that a particular folder was mounted. on the other hand those folders can be unmounted in nautilus left panel with a single click just as it's done with memory sticks. i don't get it...
Re: autodiscover of a samba share
close, but not really. gnome nautilus discovers networks but not shares by which i mean particular public folders shared through a certain network - accessible with a single click from something that in gnome nautilus is called shortcuts. if you don't know what i mean here is a little article: http://www.askbjoernhansen.com/2007/10/27/setup_samba_for_bonjour_networking_with_os_x_105_l.html so far i've managed to configure avahi so it finds samba shares through avahi-discovery. but i still do research how to gain functionality of automounting them in nautilus shortcuts the way its done after you double click particular samba share what i believe is mounting a samba share. cheers /t :-) > > That's what actually GNOME nautilus (and I think Konqueror/Dolphin also) > does when you connect to a windows network, it auto-discovers available > resources and you can then click on them without mounting the share in > the usual way but by means of "smb://" protocol. > > Greetimgs, > >
autodiscover of a samba share
hi, recently friend of mine visited me with his macbook in my home. i never used macos before to often, but i was amazed that its default file manager discovered automatically my public samba shares without mounting. they are just visible and accessible with single click, just after connecting to my wireless network. honestly i'm jealous, BUT i'm pretty shure that it can be done in debian aswell. was looking for some solutions on internet, but i haven't found anything satisfying. any suggestions? thanks in advance /t
3.0 kernel fails to compile
hi, anybody had the same issue? whole compilation goes fine, but when it comes to creating packages it terminates with following error: /usr/bin/makeARCH=i386 \ -C Documentation/lguest make: *** Documentation/lguest: No such file or directory. Stop. make: *** [debian/stamp/build/kernel] Error 2 removing #include from lguest.c (sort of workaround found on forums) didn't help i've used make-kpkg, thanks for suggestions

I'm sure none of the fancy > javascript crap will keep working, which points out the foolishness of > treating a web page like an application. > i fully understand your point aswell as atitude towards web apps. but mind two cases: first: (not particular google case) i came to a point where i simply can't avoid using javascript based web applications. i'm a librarian and i just HAVE to work on web based databases (vtls)- with ajax interfaces. you can call it foolishness, but there are points where you just can't choose for yourself. second: google tries to force people to use new standarts, and it's not cool. but functionality of gmail embeded chat has its advantage of being portable (including logs). again you can call it crap, but i find it usefull in many situations. i'll manage to upgrade ff in squeeze or force myself to use pidgin. but in my opion stable branch is a little bit to 'conservative' especially for persons like my wife, who is not interested all of the software intricacies (i know i should have installed her ubuntu insted of debian ;) ). cheers, /t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". google to pull support for firefox 3,5
i'm just curious, is there any chance to bring iceweasel 4.0 to stable before google ends support for 3,5? i got 4.0 on my second computer with squeeze, but i had to mess a bit to get it working, and it's not performing as well as i've expected. http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/01/google-apps-to-pull-support-for-firefox-3-5-internet-explorer-7-and-safari-3/ /t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". new notifications in squeeze
latest update introduced to my debian dekstop new, fancy notifications in linux mint style. is it possible to change their look somehow? i just want to adjust font color and size. regards t.
can't determine affected package
it's a simple reproduction of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/329645 i've got the same problem either on lenny/squeeze/sid and all possible kernels up to 2.6.34 (not tested yet). can someone tell mi how to send a bug report in that case? launchpad service seems little easier since it doesn't reqiure exact package ;) thanks in advance and all the best t. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
