Modules autloading and cleaning
Hi,my /etc/modules have the following (I put them there myself) af_packet #I don't even know if this is needed 3c59x mousedev vfat ide-scsi Where would the the appropriate place to put them so the kernel daemon can autoclean those? because I notice when I do lsmod, these modules don't have the [autoclean] next to it. ide-scsi7392 0 scsi_mod 49388 2 [sr_mod ide-scsi] vfat9276 1 fat29112 0 [vfat] mousedev3776 1 3c59x 24616 1 af_packet 11272 0 (unused) - Is there any online reference so I find out more about where is the right place (on Debian) I should put modules at so it can be autoclean. Re: How stable is dual head, twin view feature ?
I have XFree86 4.1.0.1 running with a GeForce 2 400MX card with the driver from nvidia.com. I haven't tried xinerama, but I do know that the GeForce 2 does not support interlacing. Perhaps this is related? I am not sure, I have many good experiences with nvidia card on Linux except with the Xinerama stuffs. I guess because it's still a quite new feature with Nvidia cards. Hope the next driver releases would stablize it. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: How stable is dual head, twin view feature ?
I just got the Matrox g400 32MB one and replaced my Geforce2 Quadro. I use the Matrox's driver. It seems solid, no X crashed or freeze, yet! I do not use Xinerama but using 2 screens instead. However I notice that my monitors (LCD's) console tty screen is off, the text moved too far to the left. This happened with the Nvidia card when not using Nvidia's driver. I don't really care much about that but if anyone knows the fix, please let me know. 2nd - I had to disable GLX to get X run - by disabling glx, I can't play Quake anymore ! So I guess it's impossible to play Quake3 w/ Matrox ? And what is DRI ? I use the DRI_HAL from Matrox Finally, I checked the X log and it says the AGP mode is only 1X ! My motherboard can do 4x AGP. Why is it ? I thought Matrox G4 is 4x. thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: How stable is dual head, twin view feature ?
- Nvidia GF2 - couldn't get the Nvidia binary drivers even to run, let alone try it with Xinerama. I got it working, it just crashes and freezes X too much that I have to stop using it. - Matrox G550 - smoothest setup and nicest 2D. 3D performance somewhere between sucky and non-existent. Dual-head had no problems at all. After hearing many great success with this card, I decided to get the Matrox G400 32MB. I probably will need later help in configuring it. - Radeon 7500 - good 2D, fast 3D. Dual-head took a lot of tinkering with the XF86Config-4 file to get working under X4.2, but it seems stable now it's set up right. If you want a copy of my XF86Config file to help you set up your Radeon, mail me off list and I'd be glad to help. I sold this card (7000 VE) to get the Matrox400 :( Many of my friends also say they have no success in getting this card to work. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. How stable is dual head, twin view feature ?
Hello I have a Woody system (kerne 2.4.18) with XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1. I also have a Radeon 7000ve with twinview, and an Nvidia gforce2 quadro with twinview. However, I just can't get dual monitor run well on this system. For the Radeon card, the twinview feature doesn't work at all, I was told that it doesn't even work w/ this Radeon card even with XFree 4.2.x. The Nvidia card, using the latest nvidia's driver, works! But the problem is X freezes so often, the whole computer just froze, I have to physically reboot. I like the dual monitor setting so really want to know if there's any setting that make this work on my system. So just wondering if it's just me that has problems with twinview stuff ? Or is there any other settings that you would recommend - how well is Matrox G400 or Agp+PCI settings ? they run well ? thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Deactivating swap ..... takes forever
it is probably okay actually. after all, when you deactivate swap, all swap files have to be emptied and writting into memory. unfortunately, memory might not be able to hold it all, and swapping occurs. until all is swapped in, it takes a while. But it never get passed that stage ... so there must be something wrong, and I tried to reboot (and swapoff -a) right after when the system just get startups so the loading should be light. I tried swapoff -a and reboot with Debian's default 2.2 kernel (Woody) and it turns swapoff immediately, no problem. So I think there must be something wrong with the config ? I checked the changes log and my hardware should work okay with 2.4. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Deactivating swap ..... takes forever
Hello, I just recompile the kernel for my old machine. I can boot into this new kernel and everything seems like what I wanted, except when I shut down the computer It tries to turn off all services and such but at the line Deactivating swap the HD led just blinks and it won't pass that stage. I have to physically powerdown the computer and restart. It seems like I am setting some thing wrong wit the config. Here's the .config file that I used. ipmasquerading stops when dialup service is dropped
Hello, I have dialup and ip masq to share my dial up connection among my personal network. The problem is when I stop the connection, and redial again, I 'have' to rerun the rc.firewall in order for ipmasq to work. Is this a normal behavior ? Is there anyway so that I don't have to re-run rc.firewall everytime I redial ? thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mod probe: can't locate module char-major ....
Hi, I am new to Debian Linux - I just had it installed several days ago - when boot up I notice there are several messages Mod probe: can't locate module char-major , I recompile the kernel manually and this is what I set in the Native Lanague Support category Default NLS Option iso8859-1 Codepage 437 (United states, Canada) - Module NLS ISO 8859-1 (Latin; Wester European Langugages) - Module (trully speaking, I don't know what these are , a friend told me to turn them on so I did, if they are unnecessary or if there's something else should be on, let me know also) although it doesn't affect any booting process but I would like to know what they are and how to fix them.
