#pound-sign files# what are they?
I notice that when I stop a process, I sometimes get a file from it like this: #foo.txt# or #.foo. What are these? Are they safe to rm? Thanks in advance. Tom

Tom Schuetz [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I notice that when I stop a process, I sometimes get a file from it like this: #foo.txt# or #.foo. The #file# are Emacs autosave files. They appear when you are editing a file and haven't saved yet. They're deleted when you save or kill the buffer. (If you just kill Emacs, they're left so you can recover the files.) The .#files are lock files, indicating that you're editing a file. If you've stopped editing it, and the lock file is still there, it's safe to delete. -- Alan Shutko [EMAIL PROTECTED] - In a variety of flavors! TS I notice that when I stop a process, I sometimes get a file from it like this: #foo.txt# or #.foo. TS What are these? Are they safe to rm? Usualy it is an auto-safe or backup file ( I don't remember exactly) from some editors: emacs, xemacs, jed and maybe some others. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | Ilya Martynov (http://martynov.org/)| | GnuPG 1024D/323BDEE6 D7F7 561E 4C1D 8A15 8E80 E4AE BE1A 53EB 323B DEE6 | | AGAVA Software Company (http://www.agava.com/) | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
