There is: http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/nvidia-2.6-Debian/
(which of course references minion.de).

Don't use the debian package, use the nvidia installer package from

Not sure its that simple. If you load the debian nvidia-kernel-source package
then there are instructions, not related to the installer
in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-source. This is what I have been following
(including the separate instructions to get a patch for 2.6 - plus the patch
for apm)

How does the installer help?

Use the installer. It's *way* easier.

There is not a Debian-specific way to do this.

Mine was from kernel.org, but I used make-kpkg to create a debian
package. If I have the time, I usually prefer to compile my own kernels.

What version of the kernel are you using? I am convinved I have seen a post
somewhere that said that they had some missing symbols when using the k7
version of the kernel (ie 2.6.0-1-k7) and not when they used the vanilla
kernel (ie 2.6.0-1). I have missing symbols and 2.6.0-1-k7 as the kernel

I have searched all over for this post - but can't find it. I am sure it was
on debian-user, and probably within the last three weeks.

I have only tried (and gotten working) 5328 in 2.6.0, but I couldn't get
it working in 2.4.24, so now I use 4496.

With the patch from

http://www.minion.de

there are no problems with nvdidia drivers version 1.0-5328
and linux 2.6.1.

Having got rid of millions of debug messages from syslog (see "More 2.6.0
woes" post below) I can now see that the error messages when trying to load
the nvidia module is related to unknown symbols "smp_call_function" and
"cpu_online_map"

Can you say what version of the nvidia drivers you had working. As you can
see from the previous post my version is 4496 - and whilst this works on
2.4.22 it doesn't seem to work (rebuilt after patching) on 2.6.0

I had them working properly with 2.6.0 (I dropped back to 2.4.24 for
various reasons). I simply followed the instructions available at:

I am having trouble - I patched the driver with the 2.6 patch and then rebuilt
it into a deb which I then installed.

When the module tries to load (as XFree tries to start up when kdm is started)
I get an entry in syslog as invalid module format.

I am of course stuck now as to what to do next.

I have yet to find out if the Debian-provided nvidia-kernel drivers work
