That's a shame, as the testing we did on release day worked fine. I
don't see any bug reports from you, though...

I always considered the DVD images as the same as the CD images, the
only difference being the number of packages included on the media. I
always assumed that the debian-installer part would be the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this still possible with the released version of Lenny? Or do I need
 all 5 of the DVD's?

The first media will in most cases give you a fully functioning system.
If you require packages from non-free (for intel wireless :-( etc.)
and don't have access to a network connection during install then you
will need to download any extra packages and store them on a media you
will be able to access.

ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my
apartment it is.

Hi Steve, I have been reading the Debian List and following the release
and know how hard it was to make Lenny final and would like to take this
opportunity to thank you and all the Debian volunteers for all the hard
work..Thank you, I wish you guys and gals all the best, you're the greatest.

The sha1summ of the downloaded ISO matched that of the upstream
ISO, but I could never correctly generate the sha1summ of the burned
DVD. So, not being able to demonstrate that it wasn't my fault, I
filed no bug.

Ah, OK. This is a common problem I've heard. Most DVD-writing software
will pad the end of the image as it's written, so you'll need to be
careful to avoid that when reading back for your checksum comparison.

Find the number of blocks in the image by dividing by 2048 (ISO block
size) and then use dd:

$ dd if=/dev/scd0 bs=2048 count=$numblocks | sha1sum

Yes; why wouldn't it be? Only if you want to.
