I might get shot for saying this, Edubuntu is Debian based and aimed at children. http://www.edubuntu.org/ For a 4 year old... saves you trying to discover and install suitable things, where hopefully plenty of people have already given input. Just get in to the BIOS, set boot from CD, pop in the CD with the distribution and off you go. When if comes to partitioning the hard disk just use the whole disk, XP vanishes during disk partition and format. I do recommend though doing a net search on that model laptop and install of the Linux version you want. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Debian Installation Process ?s
I've got an old WinXP lap-top I'd like to resurrect for my son to use for games, internet, etc. I'm ready to wipe the drive and convert it to linux, but I'm not sure how to get started. When I crank up the PC now, it's asking me for an admin password (that's been long since forgotten). Can anyone tell me the process for wiping the drive given above? Will it be possible to download the Debian install on another computer, copy to CD and use that as the install? Will I be able to support a wireless (PCMIA?) card I have for this PC? Any other tips greatly appreciated. If I can't get this to work, I'll just junk the PC, but seems like a waste given my son's (4yr old) facination w/computers. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
