Didn't realize it was an "environment" var - Oops! never mind.

Thanks!

Pardon my ignorance - but what the *!* does LC_ALL refer to, and where can I
find the syntax to set it with?

Thanks,

I concur with the rest of the comments...

The LC thing being set to C has to be changed.

As well, I found I could not install on my Potato-based desktop system (which
I've just upgraded to Woody...and therefore have to try a Kylix install on
again). But it installed fine on my Progeny (Woody)-based notebook.

The fonts in the menus are so small, that I break my eyes in 640x480
on a 19" :-( No problems in the code-editor.

Did anyone had the same problem?

I did much the same, except that when the popup
"Generating font matrix" appeared, I did something
(closed the box ??), I just don't remember exactly
what, and then kylix came up fine. Whatever I did
was suggested in a previous post that I found on
google. Anyway, it has run fine since that
initial problem.

Anyone else has any advice? (I use sid)

I installed it w/o any problems (as user).
When I ran it, it complained about LC_ALL being set to C (is it some
sort of unnaceptable practice that I don't know about?).

I set LC_ALL to russian, and it said "Generating font matrix"
It takes about 60% of my CPU time, and I am still waiting.

Anyone willing to share their expiriences?

Re: Debian and Kylix open edition

2001-08-30 Thread Philippe Clérié
I have it installed on Woody. Went without a hitch. Just follow the
instructions.

The only problem I had was linked to the locale environment variables. On
startup Kylix says something about creating fonts and then quits. It seems
that it does not like the "C" locale. Set the appropriate LC? variables to
"en_US" and you should be in business.

Sorry about the lack of details but I am not on the appropriate system right
now.

Philippe Clérié

For kylix, I would upgrade (atleast partially) to woody, mainly libc6.

Debian and Kylix open edition

2001-08-30 Thread MRZ
I wondered - has anyone has made any attempt at installing the freebie Kylix
IDE?

According to the PREINSTALL readme, all distro's should be
able to run it though only a few specific ones are auto configured
(patched?)- a feature not present for Debian.

But then it says that "A bug in some versions of the glibc loader can cause data
corruption during the dynamic loading and unloading of shared
objects..Systems which cannot upgrade to glibc 2.2 require
a patched version of glibc 2.1.2 or later."

According to the test script included, everything else required I need
is present so I should be able to run Kylix if I get/apply the patch.

Can someone please point me to what I need.

Thanks,
Marc.
