I used CuteFTP until I had PPP working on this side of the box. I
believe you can set it to treat links as files.

I've successfully used WSFTP as a Windows FTP client to download from both
of these sites. (Right now, I've got systems running Win95, WinNT4
(Server), and Debian GNU/Linux. Contrary to what others say, I like them
all and use all of them every day. They've all got strengths and
weaknesses But, I _wouldn't_ do without any one of them, either.)

You can get it from:
http://www.ipswitch.com
or Jumbo or TUCOWS of course.

Make sure you get:

/debian/stable/disks-i386/current/*

Follow the installation instructions in there to get going. Every other
directory just contains optional components, etc, but the one you'll
primarily be interested in after the one above is:

/debian/stable/binary-i386/*

Get the Packages file and go through that for info on what's available.

Good luck,

Get another ftp client. I use Netscape or WS-FTP on '95 at work. Or you can
use command line
ftp from a dos shell.

If you examine the links, they should tell you exactly where the files are.

You aren't the first person to have trouble with CuteFTP. I would delete it
and try somthing else.

Downloading Debain

1997-04-25 Thread Turbo 'DanB'
Hi,

I am interested in downloading Debian, but I am running into problems...

I am running Windows NT 4 currently, and have tried to download from
ftp.debain.org and ftp.cdrom.com.

The ftp client I am using is CuteFTP v1.8

The problem is that I can not download the "links" to the actual files (all
the the *.deb files)

How can I remedy this? I would like to downlaod the whole directory
structure at one time, even though it will take a while...

Where can I find the actual files that I use to install Debian, instead of
just links to the files?

Below, I have included a copy of some of the errors I was getting useing
CuteFtp:

STATUS:> Downloading directory cdtool.deb...
COMMAND:> CDW cdtool.deb
550 cdw cdtool.deb: No such file or directory
ERROR:> failed to change dir

It does this for all of the links to the .deb filesHow can I get them?
I really want to try Debain! What ftp client should I use?

Thanks for your help...
