Nah, it's "just" a 12 years-bug:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200683

You only have to wait for 12 years more.

Thunderbird does it nicely :-)

Perhaps we need to file bug reports, reps. wishes to the client coders.

I've long noted that Sylpheed also doesn't seem to have subject line
spell checking, and I agree that it would be nice to have it.

Evolution spell checking

2012-05-04 Thread Ralf Mardorf
Does anybody know a way to get spell checking for Evolutions subject
line? I'm serious.

I don't like it, if I write subjects similar to this one:
"RAM from the stonagae"

Regarding to Google it might be a bug for Ubuntu known years ago. I'll
reboot to Debian later and test Evolution there.

I'm using the same mails with Evolution on several installs, first
Evolution install on my machine for those mails is from Arch Linux and
there spell checking also doesn't work for the subject.

Regards,
Ralf

Hi,

Install the gnome-spell package and the relevant aspell dictionaries
(like aspell-en or aspell-pt).

You can change the dictionary in the control center.

Best regards,

You're bloody well right : I wonder why I installed that old package
from that external source instead of picking it from the distribution...
So forget the nonsense I wrote in my previous post: the package in
unstable is more recent.

apt-get install gnome-spell

It wasn't in woody before, but it is now. It popped in a few weeks ago.

Kind Regards

There is an unofficial packet that provides spelling to the gtkhtml
component. I use it myself and it does the job quite nicely.
http://www.luyer.net/EvoBuilds/spell-checking/gnome-spell_0.3-0_i386.deb

Parameters are in the "/Document Handler/HTML Viewer" menu of the Gnome
Control Center. In the "Miscellaneous" tab of the "Spell Checking" box
is a "Language" field where you should enter the two letters code of
your language of choice ("en", "de", "es" or "fr" for example).

These settings are also editable from Evolution through the "Properties"
option of the "Edit" menu in a message composition window wich in facts
calls the Gnome Control Center, but the settings do not take effect
until you close and re-open the window.
