Alternately you can look at the webpage source and see what the file name is of the flash and see if you can get it with wget. Or try a firefox extension that will download and save as an mp4. Flash Player Install Confusion
I just did a fresh install of Debian Squeeze X64 and I can't find Adobe Flash Plugin anywhere via Apt. I searched the Wiki and found this link: http://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer My current source.list looks like: deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main non-free deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main non-free deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main non-free As you can see from above, I only modified my source.list to 'non-free' and left everything else? I see for Lenny there is instructions to add 'backports non-free' but I am not using Lenny so I don't want to mess my system up. Can someone please tell me the offical / proper way to install Adobe Flash on a newly installed Squeeze / Testing machine? Flash player gives me no audio
Hello list, I have a fresh Squeeze installation on my main desktop and it was all running smooth, except for the fact that flash player wouldn't play any sounds for me through both Konqueror and Iceweasel. I'm using KDE. All other sounds were operating correctly, which means that I could hear notifications from the OS, music from Amarok, and sound from games. I was instructed to download the 'padevchooser' package which brought along pulseaudio as well, but this didn't solve my problem. Instead, I daresay that it added another: Whenever I log into my system, I receive the following notification (I scribbled down whatever I could within 5 seconds): Notification from Phonon, the KDE .. HDA Intel ALC883 Analog is not working correctly. Falling back to PulseAudio. After this, I need to unmute my system sounds from padevchooser's "Volume Control", which is tiring and unnecessary. I don't want to have to do that every time I log into my Debian partition. I'm going to catch hell for this, but download the tar.gz from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ unzip, and run the installer from a terminal. It will install to your home directory, and it will work like a charm. If it doesn't you may have a conflicting install. Re: 64-bit Flash Player
Thanks for replies Daryl, Clifford, and Jim. But its probably time I give up on installing Flash. I downloaded the correct file, copied it to ~/.mozilla/plugins, deleted all other instances of the flashplugin but nothing worked. I also tried adding debian-multimedia to my sources.list but then apt-get threw this error at me: - gir...@ff15:~$ sudo apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: flashplayer-mozilla: Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.20.0) but 1.12.4-3 is to be installed Depends: libc6 (>= 2.7-1) but 2.3.6.ds1-13etch7 is to be installed Depends: libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5) but 2.2.1-5+etch3 is to be installed Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.12.0) but 2.8.20-7 is to be installed Depends: libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.20.3) but 1.14.8-5 is to be installed E: Broken packages - I wonder where I am making that stupid mistake!? Re: 64-bit Flash Player
Thanks for all your replies (and apologies for the delay in getting back from my end; I'd been away and without the Internet). I tried using FlashPlayer 10 by copying its libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib64 and symlinking it in /usr/lib64/iceweasel/plugins. Didn't work. I then tried keeping that file in various other locations like ~/.mozilla/plugins and ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins/ but that didn't work too. Finally I also tried installing the plugin from the experimental repository. But apt then asked me to include the sid main repository in sources.list too so that it could get the correct version of ndiswrapper. Enabling sid main however made apt attempt to upgrade every piece of software in my Etch distribution! Am I doing something wrong here?! Thanks, Girish. That's why it segfaulted!!! Whatever. If you want me to beta test, gimme source and debug symbols so that I can participate in the testing too. I'm not your 64-bit betatester monkey if you're not giving me any code in return. Fwiw, 32-bit also segfaults, although admittedly less frequently. Crap software for their own (acceptable) formats. PDF and Flash are both fine formats and have many valid uses. Often people say they hate PDF, but what they really hate is Acrobat Reader and its long load times and intrusive embedding into the web browser. I hate that flash player segfaults and brings down my browser with it. Yes, gnash and swfdec haven't implemented all of Flash yet, but they're steadily getting better, they do at least the important bit, which is flv, and they have many enhancements in their user interface over Adobe's flash player. And I can hack them. Adobe, I am glad you give us specs for your formats. Thank you for that, even if the Flash spec was mostly a symbolic gesture since most or all of it had already been largely reverse engineered. I am not glad you make crappy software for those formats and everyone uses it. - Jordi G. H.
