Noticed the same Gnome3 behaviour in Jessie. Gnome started but without statusbar and without window decorations. Gnome Classic works fine. Expect Jessie to be a bumpy ride, #gnome-next on oftc suggests. Especially if you are running Gnome, and at least until all 3.8.x components have percolated into Jessie, I reckon.
