I bet you did something to upgrade bash and it got upgraded without the new
libreadline or something... That happened to me before. I suggest you make
an extra passwd entry for root with sash as the login shell..

Here's mine (I use shadow passwords, s)

root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
sash:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sash

HELP!!! BASH IS FSCKED!!

1998-05-29 Thread M.C. Vernon
Dear all,

When I try to log in from the console, via telnet or open an
xterm, I get the following message -

$-bash: error in loading shared libraries
/lib/libreadline.so.2: undefined symbol __sigseetjmt

The shell then dies (i.e. I get logged out, and on the console, linuxlogo
comes up again).

I got hold of /etc/profile by ftp, and have attached it :(

I'm running hamm, and this behaviour started between about 7and 01.00 last
nite (i.e. I was out at the time, so it could be something a luser has
done)...

Pls help!

Thanx,

Matthew

1998-05-29 Thread M.C. Vernon
Following up my own post here, to provide some more info:

I can run Tcsh and Ksh from X (though I don't know how to use either).

When I try to run sh I get a similar error:

pick:~ sh -i
sh-2.01$ sh: error in loading shared libraries
/lib/libreadline.so.2: undefined symbol: __sigsetjmt

And when I run su:

$ su
Password:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/mcv21# bash: error in loading shared libraries
/lib/libreadline.so.2: undefined symbol: __sigsetjmt

All help gratefully received...

Thanks,

Matthew

And again. Sorry folks.
