I'm not sure why and I didn't have the time to investigate this, but
using strace I figures out that my icedove tries to start
gnome-www-browser, so I've linked that to iceweasel. Probably a feature
I don't have because I'm using KDE...

Cheers,

Bernd

I'm using Sarge, so this may not apply to you.

I configured Thunderbird to open links with Firefox by using the
gnome-control-center. I started the control center and selected
"firefox" as my preferred web browser.

I actually preferred the workaround quoted a bit futher down [1]. Since
my machine is single-user, I decided not to mess with icedove's
installation dirs, should this bug get fixed one day.

That is not an option in iceweasel it is related to the alternatives
system in debian.

To do it properly have a look at "man update-alternatives"

The easy way would be to just let /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser
(something like that) point to the correct browser (your iceweasel
binary)

Even after setting the right alternative, it might still not work
because of bug #425790. Have a look on the BTS, there are a couple of
workarounds.

Thank you all.

Here is the output of the setting on my machine:
debian:/home/michael# update-alternatives --display x-www-browser
x-www-browser - status is auto.
link currently points to /usr/bin/iceweasel
/usr/bin/iceweasel - priority 70
slave x-www-browser.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/iceweasel.1.gz
Current `best' version is /usr/bin/iceweasel.

Yes, I have set the iceweasel as the default x-www-browser, it works
fine when I click hyper links within the other applications except
icedove. So I'm wondering if there is any option in icedove to be set
explicitly to point to iceweasel which opens the hyper links when user
click it. It now gives me no response when I click one http links in
icedove.

Thanks.

How to set iceweasel as the application to open http hyper links in icedove?

2007-10-06 Thread Michael Yang

Hi:

I'm working on Debian lenny/sid, with the IceDove 2.0.0.4 installed on
my machine.

When I click a hyper link in icedove, I'd like one browser, for example,
iceweasel, to open this link.
I didn't find any where within icedove to set this option. Could anyone
point it out?

There is no response now when I click the link.
I have set the iceweasel as my default browser, icedove as default mail
client on my machine, and also it works fine when I click the link in QTerm.

Thanks.
Michael.
