Re: Icedove shuts down after send

There is a new icedove package for stable that may fix the problem, see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2008/msg00088.html.

I'm trying out this new build now because I'm also affected by this 'crash after
send' bug.

There is this issue in the bugreports:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=466527

However, it doesn't crash every time, just in a particular circumstance.

A question for anyone who knows bugreport: how do I tell what the status of the
bug is? i.e. resolved or fixed for version x?

Regards
Adam

I did a 'send' with another new email window open and it didn't crash. Hopefully
it's fixed :)

By the way, this is the test for me:

launch icedove
start writting email A, do not send
write and send email B
finish email A and send.

Probably! How do I do that? Where is the Migration Guide??

Thanks!

There is no need to move off Stable. You can install a previous version
of Icedove from http://snapshot.debian.net/package/icedove . For
example, version 1.5.0.13+1.5.0.14b.dfsg1-0etch1 may be what you're
looking for.

I also have 1.5.0.12.dfsg1-0etch1 (i386) in my /var/apt/archives if you
want it.

Icedove shuts down after send

2008-03-16 Thread Dennis G. Wicks
Greetings;

I just updated icedove via aptitude install icedove and
now everytime I do a send icedove shuts down. No
messages that I can find. I can start it back up and it
works fine until I try to send another message.

I am running gnome and;

 Icedove 1.5.0.13+1.5.0.15b.dfsg1-0etch1

kernel 2.6.18-4-686 #1 SMP Wed May 9 23:03:12 UTC
2007 i686 GNU/Linux

TIA!

That appears to be the version from etch. Is it possible for you to
upgrade to the latest version? If not, then try running icedove from a
terminal window and see if there are any error messages in the terminal
when it shuts down.

That appears to be the version from etch. Is it possible for you to

As far as I am concerned, whatever I get from

aptitude install prog_name

is the latest, greatest, and only! Every time I have
tried to install something any other way I have wound
up in a big pile of doo-doo!

(If you have a safe, sure way of getting the *real*
latest and greatest I would love to hear about it!)

If not, then try running icedove from a
terminal window and see if there are any error messages in the terminal
 when it shuts down.

That I can do, finally. (It doesn't work to just change
Launcher Properties to Run in terminal) Yes, there is
a message:

- dgwicks:~$ icedove
- DOUBLE-CLICK: 400 -- -1 THRESHOLD: 8 -- -1
/usr/lib/icedove/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 2397
Segmentation fault  $prog ${1+$@}

Greetings again;

Well, this seems to be a known problem which isn't
getting fixed.

So, can anybody tell me how to backout the last update
to Icedove? It is really inconvenient to have to
restart it every time I send an email! :-(

TIA!

Doesn't it occur only when you have another Icedove window open at
the same time?

(You know, you could always purge icedove and install Thunderbird
2.0.0.12 directly from mozilla.org.)

I have the main Icedove window open, list of accounts
and folders in the left pane and list of emails in
folder in right pane. Then there is this compose
window. Can't have any less. If I close the main
window then Icedove shuts down. When I click send in
this window it will send the message and then cancel

Well, I will try that, but as I mentioned in an earlier

Oh, does purging Icedove erase all of my mail boxes,
folders and config information? That would be a
*bad*thing*!

Thanks,
Dennis

This is the error, I think. There are a few work-around possibilities.

Several people have the problem with no extensions

Not what I meant! There is just me and root on the

Icedove, and each has many folders. If purging Icedove
resulted in removing all that info it would be a disaster!

While none of your mails will get deleted. The place where thunderbird
and icedove store the mails and account information are different.
Icedove stores your profile in ~/.mozilla-thunderbird while thunderbird
stores it in ~/.thunderbird (or maybe the other way round) So it is
better if you take a backup of that folder before you play around with
the upgrade.
