Re: Is there a Debian package for SANE 0.74 or 0.73?

1998-09-10 Thread Kevin Dalley
Well, there is a workaround. Edit /etc/sane.d/dll.conf by commenting
out all scanners which you do not have on your system. There is a bug
somewhere in 0.74, but I haven't found a fix for it yet.

H. I linked sga with sg0, then tried xscanimage, gimp as sudo
root and they still crashed. Can you remember anything else you did that may
have affected it?
Thanx,
Timothy

When I found the 0.74 version and installed it, I had the same problem.
Don't know exactly what did it, but I started xscanimage as sudo root,
then started Gimp as sudo root, then did 'ln -s /dev/sg0 /dev/sga' and
somewhere along the line it all worked and I can now use the scanner as
 a regular user

 Worth a try!

Sorry, Timothy, I can't. You know what it's like - you fiddle around and
get something going but never know what actually did it. Can you still
not start Gimp as a user?

Does anyone have, or know the whereabouts of, the latest SANE package
for Debian? Even 0.73 would be OK. I need support for my Agfa Snapscan
scanner which isn't in the 'current' 0.72 package.

Tell dselect to use the 'unstable' distribution, it is in the 2.1-to-be
version. Alternatively, if you don't want lots of other updates as well,
get
ftp://ftp.debian.org/pub/debian/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/graphics/sane_0.74-1.deb

Cheers, Paul. I have downloaded and installed the package. Works great!
