KDevelop

2007-06-09 Thread Danesh Daroui

Hi all,

If you have experience in KDevelop I amd using KDevlop C/C++ and have
following questions:

1. How can I specify path to my my "include" directory? I used Automake
configuration but it didn't work!
2. I can not debug my code however the code is compiled in "debug" mode.
How can I activate debugging mode?

Regards,

D.

2007-07-16 Thread eberdeed
I've been try to use kdevelop on and off for the last five years.? It has never
been a stable reliable IDE for me.? Recently however it has become almost
useless.? Everytime I attempt to compile something it crashes.? The language
doesn't seem to matter, it crashes in every language from kde C++ to Pascal.? I
even tried downloading the source and compiling it using the usual configure
and make macros and it could not even complete on its own without using
--ignore-errors and -k (keep going).? I am to the point where I am tempted to?
return to translation as a career choice. Here is the relevant crash info as
gathered by the bug chaser:

But where do I find this files? I've looked for it at

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:

What is the best way to resolve it?

automake manager//settings/Includes

- internal includes: enable them by selecting them from the list provided
in 'Directories inside project'

- external includes: enable them adding the include path as gcc parameter (man
gcc) in 'Directories outside project':
-I or -isystem

Try KDevelop 3.4 from testing. I have installed but not yet tested debugging
at home/debian. In the office I have a suse and wasn't able to debug/profile
with the suse 10.2 default KDevelop 3.3.x. After installing KDevelop 3.4(.1)
(and gdb 6.6) I was able to debug and profile my code.

Hi,
I've just installed it. I got it as a deb package from
http://snowcrash.tdyc.com/
If you've got kpackage installed (should have it, if you
have KDE installed), it's a piece of pie ---
using kfm (KDEs file manager, which is also a nice
web browser), go to the URL, right-click
your mouse on the deb package of interest, and kpackage
will be in the popup menu. kpackage starts, click "install" button.
Job done.
Actually, it calls dpkg. kpackage is a graphical frontend
and handles both rpms and debs.

I installed all of KDE from the same site.

Barry Kauler

Hi Barry

I've tried downloading the mentioned file from the URL you gave... but
it wasn't there...

About the kfm, I've tried to install other package using the technique
you said, but when I right-click on the file that I wanna install, the
menu don't show me the install button...

I do know that's so boring, but can you help me again?

Umm, yes, I was going from memory when I advised you.
I actually used apt-get to install kdevelop, but using kfm
and kpackage, go to this URL:
http://snowcrash.tdyc.com/debian/dists/slink/rkrusty/binary-i386/devel/

In kfm, with that URL on-screen, right-click on kdevelop deb package
and one of the pop-up menuitems is kpackage. Select kpackage
and it will load, and kpackage has an install button.

If you don't get kpackage in the pop-up menu, then maybe it isn't
installed. (is this a Catch-22 situation?) --- then, find what package
it's in and use apt-get, which requires more instructions.

kdevelop & KDE

2004-06-09 Thread Marie Regine SAPIR
Hi,

I tried to install some KDE packages from the KDE website, and now get these errors:

Invalid entry (missing '=') at /usr/bin/designer:8
kio (KService*): WARNING: The desktop entry file /usr/bin/designer has no Name

I think I've messed up KDE somehow, but I can't figure out what the problem is. I've
tried uninstalling the packages and reinstalling the ones from the Debian site, but
that didn't help. Somehow the more I try out ideas I find by googling, the more I seem
to break things :-((

Kdevelop & htdig

2003-01-27 Thread Richard Hector
Hi all,

I have problems right at the end (I think) of Kdevelop Setup - it wants
to use htdig to index all the docs (and I think that's a good idea), but
complains about the lack of a htdig.conf file.

>From googling, I've discovered that at least at one stage, a README file
on this topic existed in /usr/share/doc/kdevelop (which it doesn't now),
which said a custom version of htdig was required. An examples directory
was also there, with the conf file.

Does the fact that these things are missing from the package I've just
installed mean that this issue has changed, and it should all work
smoothly, or has the package just lost some docs along the way, and I
should follow the archived docs I found on the web?

Thanks,

Richard

AppImage error kdevelop

2023-01-27 Thread jeremy ardley
I'm having trouble with kdevelop (and getting zero support from the
kdevelop list)

I installed the latest Debian version using apt, but the problem is when
I go to open an existing project all project files are grayed out in the
file browser. Unable to resolve this I downloaded the latest AppImage
from the kdevelop site. This started, but when I went to open a project
I got

(AppRun.wrapped:45368): Pango-ERROR **: 07:17:03.232: Harfbuzz version
too old (1.7.5)

This confuses me. I though AppImage was supposed to be completely self
contained so there should be no host system dependencies? Or is this an
internal issue in the AppImage?

Cannot install kdevelop!?!

2001-07-14 Thread Debian User
Hoi!

I have a big problem:
I want to install kdevelop, but due to a version problem this does'nt work.
After downloading kdevelop1.0beta1-1_i386.deb I tried to install with dpkg.
But(t) dpkt quits with the error-message:
" kdevelop depends on qt1g (>= 1.44-4); however:
  Package qt1g is not installed.
dpkg: error processing kdevelop (--install):

I found out that qt1g is obsolete and is replaced by libqt1g, wich is installed
on my system (debian 2.2).
Afterwards I tried apt-get -f install, wich only tries to remove the (u)npacked
kdevelop.

Is there a chance that I can install kdevelop?
And: Why is it _that_ complicated???

Thanx in advance

Hi,

no idea but a question.
Which line did you add to your /etc/apt/sources.list to get KDE-apps. In my
dselect
package list no KDE app is shown.

Thanks.

Hmm. All I could find were the 1.0 debs on the kdevelop site. What path did
you use to get the 1.1betas?

Hello to All,

well, as written in the subject, is there any Subversion support or interface

I tried to 'google' this matter but (surprisingly) find nothing concluant ...

Thanks.

KDevelop starting problems

2002-06-16 Thread Christian Schoenebeck
Hi!

I'm using KDevelop for the 1st time and I have some small starting problems.
I just tried to compile some hello-world-app but got this error:

checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will
fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

Ok, I noticed that 'KDE 2.x-Directory' (includes/libraries) in the KDevelop
settings has not been set yet, so I tried some directories (e.g.
/usr/include/kde, usr/lib/kde2) but I always get the error message that the
chosen directory would not be the kde root directory.

I read the docs but they're all mentioning the /opt/kde2 directory which
isn't existent on a Debian system.

So, what Directory should be set for the 'KDE 2.x-Directory'? Do I have to
create a symlink /opt/kde2 -> /somewhere?

Thanks,

Christian Schoenebeck

Problems with kdevelop....

I can't seem to get kdevelop 2.0 (woody, kernel 2.4.17) to generate a

when I try to make it with CVS support, it bails, complaining that
Makefile.dist doesn't exist or something. Anyone know what's going on??

kdevelop configuration (debian)

newly installed Debian potato box, and get the following:

Setting up kdevelop (1.0-19991009-1) ...
cannot open dhelp file '/usr/share/doc/HTML/en/kdevelop/.dhelp': at

I've tried both with and without dhelp installed (reference to .dhelp),
with no difference.

All kdevelop's depends and suggests are present, except for sgmltools.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

kdevelop - unmet dependencies

2003-01-04 Thread Kevin Coyner

I'm running testing and would like to install kdevelop, but when I run

apt-get install kdevelop

I get the following:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdevelop: Depends: kdelibs3 (>= 4:2.2.2-1) but it is not going to be
  installed
Depends: kdebase-libs but it is not going to be installed
  E: Sorry, broken packages

Is this truly a broken package, or is there something I need to fix on
my end? I.e. install the unstable version of kdelibs3 and kdebase-libs?
I'm concerned, however, that if I do this, that other apps will get
messed up.

Thanks
Kevin

Using mercurial with kdevelop

2019-01-09 Thread Sébastien Kalt
Hi,

I was using emacs and mercurial from the command line to develop small
scripts in python.

I'm trying KDevelop, and I'd like to use mercurial directly from KDevelop.

It seems to be possible, as said here : https://www.kdevelop.org/features

There's a small * explaining "*Items marked with * might require an extra
package to be installed on a Linux system. On Windows and in the Linux
AppImage we provide, they are included and enabled by default."*

Ok, I need an extra package, but where do I get it and how do I install it ?

I found nothing in Kdevelop doc, nothing on kde.org.

Does anyone on this list have KDevelop and mercurial working together ?

Sébastien

This is quite outdated. It is still from KDE1. Do you use KDE1? Or are you
running KDE2 from testing? In the later case you should install kdevelop 1.4
which you'll get by apt-get from the debian site...
If you're still using KDE1 I can't help you out of that...

Kdevelop-php and debugging

2012-06-23 Thread Alan Chandler

Anyone out there using kdevelop with php and xdebug.

I have installed the debian kdevelop and kdevelop-php packages (from
sid) , but the only documentation I can find about how to set up the
debugger doesn't seem to match the version of kdevelop.

Kdevelop seems to have something called launch configurations, but I
don't really understand the dialog box and what to add for debugging
with xdebug. The only place on the net I found that describes this must
be for an earlier version of kdevelop, because it doesn't seem to match.

http://nikosams.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/kdevelop-xdebug-php-debugger.html

Lots of other posts refer to this.

But for a starters - its suggesting I need various kdevelop plugings,
but the links he gives don't work, and if you try and look in the same
place for later releases of kdevelop, the specific plugins are not there.

Building Tuxmath with KDevelop

2005-10-10 Thread David Bruce
First of all, please let me know if another list would be better.

I'm using Sid and want to modify TuxMath to make it more configurable for my
young daughter. My programming skills are clearly in the amateur level, but
over the last several years I have written some things for BeOS and more
recently KDE/Qt to keep myself amused (a MineSweeper clone, a Tetris clone, a
chess GUI-frontend, and the like). I know C and C++ syntax and basic
programming OK, but unless I have an IDE that "just works", the building part
is a dark art to me. I am using the KDevelop in Sid (3.2.2).

I installed the source package for TuxMath using the source option for
apt-get, and also grabbed libsdl-dev. I tried the "Import Existing Project"
option in KDevelop. When I try to build the project, it fails (see below).
I think the problem may be that I need to tell it where to find the SDL libs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

KDevelop in potato, anyone?

1999-09-09 Thread Bob Bernstein
Has anyone been able to build and run on potato the kdevelop 1.0 beta source,
in any of its incarnations? Here's the gist of two messages I've left on the
kdevelop list; they languish there uncommented upon.

-- snip ---

I have just built from cvsup sources the current kdesupport, kdelibs, kdebase
from the KDE_1_1_BRANCH. They built, thankfully, without incident and appear
to run just fine.

kdevelop was then built from the KDEVELOP_1_0 branch. All it wants to do is
seg fault. This same behaviour is displayed whether I build from the
kdevelop19990906.tar.gz snapshot, or from the kdevelop-1.0beta2.tar.gz
tarball, and now, from the cvsup sources.

This is a Debian potato system, 2.2.10, glibc2.1, g++ 2.95.1, etc. It's a
K6-233, with 64 meg ram. QT is 1.44.

The only arg to configure I use is '--disable-nls'.

I rebuilt the cvsup source with debug; here's the 'where' story:

(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/local/kde/bin/kdevelop

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x40625d4c in buffered_vfprintf () from /lib/libc.so.6
(gdb) where
#0 0x40625d4c in buffered_vfprintf () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1 0x40621afc in vfprintf () from /lib/libc.so.6
#2 0x4013a21f in debug () from /usr/local/qt/lib/libqt.so.1
#3 0x401921f2 in qt_init_internal () from /usr/local/qt/lib/libqt.so.1
#4 0x401929cf in qt_init () from /usr/local/qt/lib/libqt.so.1
#5  0x400f4235 in QApplication::QApplication ()
   from /usr/local/qt/lib/libqt.so.1
#6  0x405089d9 in KApplication::KApplication ()

#7  0x40475fb3 in KWMModuleApplication::KWMModuleApplication ()

#8 0x807bee7 in main ()
#9 0x405fe282 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/libc.so.6

I don't know enough to be able to interpret this. What seems to be the
culprit?

Are you sure /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/kdevelop/.dhelp exists?

The KDE packages currently install below /usr/share/doc/HTML/ which is no
good idea. AFAIU dhelp_parse -r removes the tree /usr/share/doc/HTML
and rebuilds it from scratch with all .dhelp files in /usr/share/doc.
Result is that all KDE HTML docs vanish from time to time when packages
are upgraded. This will be fixed in the kde packages in the near future.

Actually, I'm sure that it doesn't exist below /usr/share/doc/HTML.
AFAIKT, kdevelop never adds it's dir structure there. I've tried to add
it manually, but the added dirs get removed when I attempt to finish
configuring.

This would explain why the manually added dirs vanish.

I've just tried replacing libqt1g with qt1g and qt1g-dev, and building the
original source tarball. This fails in the configure stage, not being able
to recognize the qt1g libraries and includes:

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= 1.42 and < 2.0) (headers
and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!

dpkg -s qt1g-dev:

Status: install ok installed
Version: 1:1.44-6.1

Has anyone succesfully installed/compiled kdevelop on a current potato box?

Check the kdevelop package (dpkg -c): The docs are below /usr/share/doc/HTML.
The /usr/doc/doc-base/kdevelop-* files trigger the install-docs run that uses
dhelp as one of it's backend. Therefore install-docs tries to create
.dhelp files from the /usr/doc/doc-base/kdevelop-* files that dhelp can use.
But /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/kdevelop tree is already deleted at that time :(

Rule never install docs below /usr/share/doc/HTML :)

Never tried it. Wild guess:

o use new libqt1g-dev instead of qt1g-dev (kdevelop was released
  before qt1g* -> libqt1g*  transsition.).

o most (all?) debian specific changes are in the checked into
CVS repository of KDE. So you may try to get the lasted 1.1.2
  branch from the KDE CVS.

KDevelop 3.1 anytime soon?

2004-09-08 Thread Nicos Gollan
Hi,

I know this is a touchy subject, and Debian freezes seem oddly
coincident with KDE releases. So let's be civil ;-)

Is there anything known about KDevelop 3.1 coming to unstable anytime
soon? A large part of KDE 3.3 seems to have made it there already.

kdevelop and kdelibs3/4

What can be done ?

It doesn't appear broken here. Try doing "apt-get install kdelibs3
kdebase-libs" to figure out why apt-get doesn't want to install them[the
testing versions are fine[kdebase-libs has identical versions in testing
and unstable and kdelibs3 is pretty close to identical[1 packaging
version]]. The usual reason would be that something would need to be
removed, but nothing in debian conflicts with kdelibs3or kdebase-libs...
Do you have any non-Debian sources that might be the culprit?

Not the kind of answer you're expecting, I know, but given the
development status of the plugin, have you considered asking at

It has been a while since I played with kdevelop, but the suggests list
for kdevelop includes kdbg, which sounds like what you want. Do you have
this installed? I think this should probably be a recommends, if debugging
is impossible without it. What do you think?

I can tell you only that the internal debugger works for me. I have
only tried very simple, console-based C++ projects so far. There are
some issues, though. It seems to lose the ability to display local
variable values after it steps into a function and returns, which is
fairly tragic.

Kdevelop also lets you use kdbg, which is a more complete wrapper around
gdb. All you need to do is click Options/KDevelop Setup/Debugger/Use
external debugger. It takes a bit longer to start up (again, I have
tested only very simple projects), but it seems to work a bit nicer.

AFAIK, there is no such package (libsdl-dev), but rather several
libsdl-*-dev packages, containing various components (though, maybe
I haven't looked properly, or that's just a typo on your part...).
Anyhow, the two header files the build is unhappy about, should be in

  libsdl-mixer1.2-dev  (-> SDL_mixer.h)
  libsdl-image1.2-dev  (-> SDL_image.h)

Have you installed those?

I'm not a expert for KDevelop issues, but I think that should be OK.
The option '-I/usr/include/SDL' (on the cc commandline - see below)
should be all that's needed...

What files do you actually have in /usr/include/SDL/ ?

Just wondering: did you try to test for build dependencies with
"apt-get build-dep tuxmath"? If it still fails, it's probably
time to file a bug report against the Debian source package --
unless you heavily modified the source.

Kdevelop package on kde.tdyc.com/kde2

1999-10-07 Thread Stuart Ballard
apt-get just informed me that kdevelop depends on kdelibs2g (>=
4:1.1.2-19990906-1.0) but it is not installable. Does anyone know if
this is a bug, a package that isn't yet uploaded onto the server, or
something that I need to go get somewhere else?

OT: KDevelop and extra libraries

2002-09-17 Thread Torsten Wolny

Hello,

my problem is a little bit off topic but i hope someone can help me.
Yesterday i posted this question to the KDevelop mailing list without any
response.

I want to write a little programm using posix threads. I started with a
C/Terminal Application created by the kde application wizard. Then I go to
the linker options and write "-lpthread" in the additional libraries field as
described in the KDevelop user manual, section 9.4. After this I get a lot of
messages (see below) when i compile the project. The programm starts but
without any changes. It seems that it would not be recompiled. Running "make
distclean; ./configure; make" manually in a shell works fine.
Is this a bug in KDevelop or what must i do to solve this problem?

By the way, I'm using KDevelop 2.1 with KDE 2.2.2

Hope for help,
Torsten

System Locks up after kdevelop install

2006-04-20 Thread Ross Drinen
I installed debian/gnu linux for the first time a couple of months
ago for the first time. (I had been a redhat user formerly. I got
kde, apache2, ftp server, mail etc working and all was well. Then I
decided to install kdevelop and its recommended packages. After
that, the system started locking up periodically. I can operate,
sometimes for an hour, sometimes for a day, but eventually it just
locks up, often (but not always) upon opening a new window, or when
resizing a window.

By "lock up" I mean the mouse will move, but has no effect on any
windows, often a window will be outlined, but its contents will not
be painted. No keyboard action has any effect, including switching
to a virtual console. And ftp, samba etc connections from other
systems do not respond. Sometimes it will get a bit sluggish briefly
before locking up, sometimes it's without warning.

I have deinstalled kdevelop and all that went on with it, to no
avail. I've used top to try to see if I can find memory leak
indicated etc, but see none. I'm at the point of reinstalling the
operating system from scratch, then staying away from kdevelop.

Help! How would I go about diagnosing this? What measures shy of
total reinstall would anyone suggest?

Thanks for any ideas.
Ross

kdevelop on debian sarge 3.1 KDE

2005-11-26 Thread Zouari Fourat
hello,
I've installed kdevelop on my debian sarge, the IDE for C/C++ wont
work, the IDE (multilanguage) is working but it's simply an editor i
dont know how it works, and the kdevelop designer is generating an
exception at boot

libsdl-dev is a virtual package. The actual version I installed was
libsdl1.2-dev.

Well, um, er, actually no. I had assumed that libsdl1.2-dev pulled in
whatever I needed. After a simple aptitude install of these libs, the
project builds without problems.

Thanks

Sorry to reply to my own mail, but after trying to install other bits of
kde, I can't seem to get *any* of it to install. The only packages that
exist seem to end in -cvs, and all have unmet dependencies or conflict
with each other. For example, kdebase-cvs depends on qt2, but when I
tried to install qt2 it tried to *remove* kdelibs3-cvs, which is about
the only part that I *have* been able to install.

Does anyone have any information as to which packages need to be
installed in order to get a kde2 installation on potato? If this is
currently not possible, how about a kde 1 installation with a recent
version of kdevelop?

Thanks,
Stuart.

The kde*-cvs stuff is from the current HEAD branch of the KDE cvs repository
and the debs will not install smoothly any time soon due to heavy KDE
development and reorganizations in the KDE CVS. The binary packages
just save you the hassle to compile everything yourself but _nothing_
more.

If you don't like to use --force-* options of dpkg, remove
kde.tdyc.com kde2 from your apt sources and stick with kde 1 until
kde 2 has a feature freeze.

Send a mail to the list [EMAIL PROTECTED] and ask for a
Kdevelop version for the KDE 1.

I wish I had read this a few hourse earlier I am having the same problem
since I decided to upgrade from an older version of KDE now none of it
works. I have removed everything kDE now I get the error form apt-get

That kind of behavior could have many different causes, it might even be
a hardware problem. You could try to install an ssh server so that you
can log in from another computer when it happens the next time. (ssh
should be more robust that samba or ftp access, and you get full shell
access with all diagnostic tools.) It could well be that X locks up your
system by using nearly 100% CPU. I have had such cases, due to problems
with the driver of my graphics card, and then I could always use ssh to
log in and kill X. It might also help if you post your lspci output and
your X configuration; maybe someone has had similar experiences with
your specific configuration.

You should also check the log files after such a crash (and a hard reset
I assume) to see if you notice anything unusual. If you can't make sense
of the logs you can post the last 10-20 lines here.

My gut feeling is that kdevelop is not really the cause of your problem.
Hopefully one of the things I have suggested above will turn up
something useful to diagnose this better.

Thanks for the suggestion to establish ssh connection. That yields
the following further information on the problem.
When the system "locks up", top shows XFree86 running 100% CPU Usage.
Killing that process frees up the screen, and it goes back to the
KDM login screen, from which I can login and function again until the
next "lock up".
When locked up, the mouse pointer moves about the screen normally,
but no mouse clicks or keyboard actions have any effect.
It looks to me like when I installed kdevelop, I also changed X
somehow (this all started when I installed kdevelop) and removing
kdevelop didn't undo whatever changed in X.
How about i remove X (and KDE?) and reinstall them?

I don't think that will be necessary, it is probably either a
configuration problem or a hardware issue. Let's start with your
graphics card: Please run the command "lspci" and post the part of the
output which identifies your graphics card. (A line with "VGA compatible
controller" or something like that in it.) Also post your
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and the output of

egrep '^\((EE|WW)\)' /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Finally, after you have killed X in case of another lock-up, have a look
at the file .xsession-errors in your home directory. If you see anything
"suspicious" in the last entries in there, post that as well.

One of these things will hopefully give us a clue about how to proceed.

How to get newer kdevelop in my etch installation ?

2007-03-05 Thread Markus . Grunwald
Hello,

currently, I have a problem with frozen etch: In mid november, I filed a
bug report to kdevelop (the bug was about debugging problems) which was
fixed at the end of january. Thanks to the maintainer for that !

But the bug is fixed in kdevelop 4:3.4.0-1 which won't come into etch
(Quote from debian-release) :
"As this is a new minor upstream release, we will not unfreeze this
package."

Great. So I have a bugfix for a problem that really drives us crazy here
but it won't come into the etch distribution. As I see it, I have these
possibilities:

1) Don't insist on etch (stable). Just stay with testing and wait until
testing isn't frozen anymore.
I won't do this because of several reasons (takes too long, I don't want
testing any more and so on )
2) Use apt pinning.
I have no experience with this. Won't that mean that in the long run I
will draw the whole KDE stuff from testing into stable ?
3) Compile from source.
Hmmm. No problem. Would (IMHO) mean to install lots of *-dev packages,
but that's ok...
4) Anything I didn't think of...

Now I'm sure that some people here have similar problems. What would you
do, what advice can you give ?

Regards,

Markus Grunwald

Only 512 KB of video ram seems a bit low to me. You could try to comment
out that line by putting a "#" in front and see if that improves your
stability. (I assume this setting has been like that all the time,
therefore it is not clear why it should suddenly cause problems, but
maybe something changed to make X more "sensitive" to this.)

You could try DefaultDepth 16, this uses less video ram.

This should be removed or commented out, then the corresponding error
will be gone from XFree86.0.log. Most likely not the cause of your
problem, but it is maybe a good idea to tie up as many loose ends as
possible.

Like I said above, remove the reference to the non-existing "Generic
Mouse".

word to the wise: all of Florian's advice is good, but it probably a
good idea to only change one line at a time, restarting x in
between. None of these things (except maybe the memory) are likely
candidates for your problem, but its good practice anyway. nothing
like changing four or five lines and thennot knowing which one was
pertinent.

This list isn't quite correct for this question. You may want to use a
mailing list, newsgroup, or other forum specifically for k3dsurf, or
possibly kde-devel. Tracking down a SIGSEGV is often the role of a
developer[1], and this list is not developer-oriented.

That said, SIGSEGV is generally sent to the process by the kernel when it
attempts to access a page of memory that it doesn't have a mapping for --
usually caused by dereferrencing a NULL or invalid pointer, but also common

If this backtrace is correct and complete it looks like a bug in Qt, but it
could also be caused by misuse of Qt by the application. If you have no
other ideas, you should try reducing the application to a minimal test case.
As part of that process you'll probably find a misuse of the library, but
you may complete that process and be able to file a high-quality bug report
against Qt.

thank you for the information, it seems to be caused by the mesa libs
which is the implementation of opengl, for after I replace the
libGL***.so by installing nvidia video card driver from Nividia
company(not free software), the applications can run normally. thanks.

Actually, apt-pinning is a lot easier than you think. Just google
"apt-pinning" and the first result should be a HowTo for apt-pinning.

It's extremely easy and simplistic, you just have to understand how to
actually pin the apt files, and understand a few file types
(/etc/apt/preferences and /etc/apt/sources.list, which are easy).

Ok, I'm just starting to read the howto(s). I still wonder what will
happen on later upgrades, when kdevelop will depend on new kde libraries.
As I understand it, they will come in, too. Of course, I could just "hold"
kdevelop after I got it from unstable ...

Well if you ever get problems with kdevelop just do

apt-get remove kdevelop
apt-get -t unstable install kdevelop

Using "-t /version/" instead of "kdevelop/testing" will grab all of
the dependencies from Unstable, along with the actual program itself.
Or, of course, you could just not upgrade kdevelop (Put in your
/etc/apt/preferences that you don't want kdevelop to be upgraded and
you should be fine). Whenever a new feature/bugfix comes out that you
need, uninstall/reinstall.

Beats managing source packages in my opinion.

Marcus,

Using apt pinning is not for the faint of heart. Also, as you pointed
out in another message, can become problematic when the package is
updated and depends on newer libraries. Let me encourage you to go the
from-source route. I have written a HOWTO on customizing Debian
packages:

http://people.connexer.com/~roberto/howtos/debcustomize

The content is equally applicable to backporting (which is what you want
to do). You don't need to install tons of -dev packages and you can
always be sure that the resulting package will depend on versions of
libraries already present in Etch.

Yeah! I can totally relate to your situation. Debian's insistence on
stability can hinder access to the latest packages.

I had similar problem with gfortran. gfortran is a free Fortran 90/95
compiler available from GNU compiler collection. It is included in gcc from
4.0 onwards. However, by the time Debian adopted to 4.0, the developers of
gfortran considered 4.0 to be obsolete and have released 4.1 + about to
release 4.2. Due to lack of manpower, no fixes were backported to 4.0. So
Debian for a long time had a fortran 90/95 compiler which is full of
bugs.

> 4) Anything I didn't think of...

Is it possible to backport the fix to the version that is there in Etch. The
upstream author might not have time/interest in this. But as a user, if you
submit a patch, they would be happy to incorporate it.
