Thanks Michael and Gene.

This model (MS310d) doesn't have a built-in server, or ethernet or wifi
networking, so that's not an option.

I installed dfu and tried "dfu-util -l" with the printer powered on and
plugged in by USB, but it wasn't listed. So I guess it's not supported
by dfu.

I think I'll just arrange for a friend of mine with a windows laptop to
visit and take care of the upgrade.

We have a utility for that, and which I have used a couple times but
haven't managed to make it work with something expecting a winders box.
Do a search in your package manager of choice for "dfu", meaning Device
Firmware Updater. I've failed a few times but I haven't killed any
kittens with it either. And I've succeeded a couple times.

Not over USB, but I've been able to do this over the network in the
past using a combination of curl/wget and ftp.

Some reverse engineering will be required...
If you're looking for a more simple (manual) process the WebUI should have a
firmware update utility...

Installing Lexmark printer firmware via USB

2016-12-25 Thread Alex Gould
Hello everyone,

Has anyone been able to upgrade a Lexmark printer firmware via USB in
Linux?

I am using an MS310d. Lexmark has a windows firmware update utility but
it doesn't detect the printer under WINE.

Printing workers ok with CUPS but the firmware update promises to fix
some errors that I've noticed.

Thanks,
Alex

I just checked the Linux printer site for that printer but couldn't find
it. Lexmark doesn't seem to support Linux very well for ink jet
printers. See "http://www.linuxprinting.org/database.html";.

I suggest an HP printer. They are well supported.

Dean

You should absolutely try the cupsys packages (the newest ones
in woody: libcupsys2, cupsys, cupsys-bsd, cupsys-client). This is the
most comfortable printing system (manageable via a web interface) I've
ever seen. You need the PPD file which comes with the Lexmark printer.

I would think it has 4 MB. If you're lucky, you can get a bigger
memory with cheap SIMM modules.

I have this very same printer... since it's postscript you don't need
any filters at all.. or just use magicfilter and choose the ps600 (i
think) filter... it converts everything to postscript...

I still think this is a fabulous printer... for such a cheap thing...

Re: Lexmark Printer

1997-03-12 Thread Norris Preyer
We need a lot more info to figure out what's wrong! I've got an Optra
R+ which works beautifully with Debian. The problem is much more
likely to be with your setup of lpr/lprng, apsfilter/magicfilter, etc.
Can you give some more details? Specifically, do you have it attached
to a parallel printer port or do you have the network card in it?
Which flavor print daemon do you use? Any extra filtering? And what
happens if you do something like "ls > /dev/lp1" (as root)?

The Printing-HOWTO file (/usr/doc/HOWTO/Printing-HOWTO.gz) should give
you enough info to get started debugging your setup, and I'll be glad
to compare settings on the lexmark control panel.

Good luck!

Lexmark Printer

1997-03-12 Thread Matthew Tebbens

Anyone using a Lexmark printer with Debian ? Specificly an Optra E ?
I can't get Debian to print anything...are there any web pages or
documents I can look at. I read all the man pages but it didn't help.
Maybe someone can post the steps I would go through to get it working.

Thanks,
Matthew
