just get the mplayer tarball from www.mplayerhq.hu the extract it and
make: dpkg-buildpackage && cd .. && dpkg -i mplayer*.deb
if you don't have dpkg-installed apt it, its called cvs-buildpackage.

xine: It comes in two basic parts xine-ui and xine-lib.

apt-get install xine-ui should do the trick. If you're content with
smpeg-gtv you'll be pleased with xine. For playing DVD's, you'll
probably need to recompile xine.

But, you can build a Debian package from the source. It's not like
you're giving up control, you just need a little more time and some
development packages. Mplayer is the only thing I use for playing
movies.

I suggest MPlayer. It's not a debian package, nor will it be, so you
have to compile it yourself. It does have a lot of supported file
formats though (divx, mpeg, avi, dvd, etc...).

I like smpeg-xmms. The picture- and sound quality of plaympeg with the
UI of xmms.

mpeg player

1998-04-24 Thread Geza Gyorgyi

Mpeg_play does not play

The 'mpeg_play' command from the Debian 1.3 package ucbmpeg complains about
missing libm.so.4 and does not start. The package required xcompat, I
installed
it, but this contained libm.so.3. The libm.so.5 resides on the system by
default.

Where can one find version 4? Is there an error in dependency accounting?

Grateful for any clues,

Geza Gyorgyi
