I have just researched wireless networking, and have decided upon a linksys setup [befw11s4 for ap/router, wmp11 for laptops and wpc11 for desktops] gear should be delivered on tuesday! so will ask the list for help if i have any probs! One of the main advantages to the linksys gear is the support in linux. There have been a few reported problems with the wpc11 and wep but apart from that all the gear is fully supported. the linux wlan project has a compatability matrix which is a good start http://www.linux-wlan.com/linux-wlan/index.html#Compatibility but there are other resources to be googled for. hugh -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". And it gives felxibility for the future. It all depends on the circumstances in which you're using it. - Richard. true, i'm gonna get external stuff for the other desktops once i can afford it. i like my dinky little card though... ;-) iain -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Needed: Hardware recommendateons for Wireless Networking
Hi Thomas, I am using the Sony Access Point and the Sony card. The card works fine with Linux (PCWA-C100, Orinoco Driver), but the access point can only be configured from windows which stinks. Both, but especially the access point, is pretty expensive and I wouldn't go for it again. I remeber having paid almost 500 EUR for the access point and it is nothing, but an access point. You can get an access point with DSL and dhcp server for less. Cheers, Mariano On Sun, 2002-11-03 at 19:29, Thomas H. If you have 7/24 running Linux with 2 nic card, you can make it as gateway router using ipmasq package. Iuseone old notebook PC for that. But considering cheapness and compactness of routers, they should be fine. Make sure to check they can do portforwarding so you can run servers behind router. -- ~\^o^/~~~ ~\^.^/~~~ ~\^*^/~~~ ~\^_^/~~~ ~\^+^/~~~ ~\^:^/~~~ ~\^v^/~~~ + Osamu Aoki <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cupertino CA USA, GPG-key: A8061F32 .''`. A lot of their wireless access points have a router/NAT actually included access point. http://www.dlink.com/products/DigitalHome/Wireless/index.asp Their stuff is really inexpensive at newegg.com msg10794/pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature

Thanks to help from the list I now have a one computer network with a dsl connection to the internet. There are two other computers in our house which could benefit from this connection. One suggestion was to run wires through the heating ducts but this does not seem feasable in our case.
