netscape error after installing ximian

2001-06-30 Thread Haim Ashkenazi
Hi

I've just installed ximian gnome from their site (apt-get install
task-ximian-gnome). the installation was ok, but after that, every time I want
to launch netscape I get this error:

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not load
/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: linking
error=/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol:
PR_GetCurrentThread

System error?:: Success

the file is there (I've also purged and reinstalled j2re1.3). I'm not a
programmer but I've tried to run 'strings
/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so|grep PR_GetCurrentThread' and
the result was: 'PR_GetCurrentThread' (don't know if it means something).
of-course when I remove the java plugin from the netscape directory everything
is ok except that I have no java :-(.

my '/etc/ld.so.conf' file looks like that:
/usr/X11R6/lib/Xaw3d
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/lib/libc5-compat
/lib/libc5-compat

any ideas?

thanks in advance

Netscape Error: Readlink error: Invalid argument

2001-05-03 Thread Sebastian Canagaratna
Hi:
I recently got a new hard-drive because I was running out of space
and I created a new partition on this which I mounted as /usr. I
 copied
(cp -R ) all the files from the original /usr. Now netscape does not
run at all. The version of netscape is Netscape navigator 4.73, my
linux is slink, the kernel 2.2.17. It had been running fine before.

 The error message is:

Readlink error: Invalild argument
Can't determine my name. Aborting.

Clearly, while copying some links have got messed up. I thought it
was just the link to netscape-smotif. This was an actual file in the
new partition in /usr/lib/netscape/473. I removed this and linked
 /usr/lib/netscape/base-4/wrapper to netscape-smotif, but I got the
 same error.

Any suggestions how I can run this down?

 Thanks.

2000-10-23 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
first check

www.fortify.net and click on SSL check

check to make sure your using 128bit ssl not 40bit, that could cause the
error. if you are using 40bit then upgrade tot he latest (using apt) to
netscape 4.75(or is it .76 ?) or download fority's patch for 4.73 i
believe they stiull jhave them available.

second, if that doesnt work what exactly is giving u the error? is it a
popup *netscape* window that says that? or is it a javascript window? or
is it the site itself?

Netscape error: "The security library has experienced an error."

2000-10-23 Thread Mark Phillips
I am trying to download some software from the Australian Tax Office,
but when I clicked on the button to download, it gave the error:

The security library has experienced an error.
You will probably be unable to connect to this site securely.

Does anyone know what's wrong? I am using Netscape Navigator 4.73.

I looked to see if there were any security settings I could play with,
but couldn't find any under "preferences" or anything else for that
matter.

I know my brother successfully downloaded the same software, but he
might have used an older version of netscape. I would ask him about
it except he is on his honeymoon!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Mark.

I've problems with Netscape communicator messanger with IMAP protocol.
I've used this for about 2 months without any problems.

But suddenly it stop works. When I try to start messenger it shows error

etc)

If I try to change IMAp protocol to POP it works OK.

But I need IMAP together with support for national chars (rusian) and MIME.

Can anybody tell me how can I fix netscape or suggets any alternative MUA ?

I tried installing 4.07 instead and get the same error, with just
the directory name changed to the 407 directory.

I've tried deleting my ~/.netscape/ directory in case my config
was broken but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

I'd say this is because the color palette is to small for it.

just a thought, I'm probably wrong... to see if I'm right try making a small
.xsession like this:

--
#!/bin/bash

exec netscape
--

don't forget chmod +x it :)

then see if it still shows only grey boxes... if it does, then i'm almost
surely wrong in my assumption

netscape error (won't display images)

1999-09-19 Thread David Karlin
Hello,
I just debianized a friend's old '486 (16MB ram) with a fresh slink
installation. Everything seems to be running fine, except for netscape.

I did 'apt-get install navigator-smotif-45', and navigator comes up fine,
displays text, background colors, etc., but does not display images
(they show up as a grey box). This is an old box; on-board VGA video.

When I do 'navigator' from an xterm, error messages from navigator go
to that xterm, and when I try to load an image, it shows a bunch of
(repeated) error messages. Here is a snippet:

navigator-smotif_real:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 72 (X_PutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 26570
Current serial number in output stream: 26584
  Widget hierarchy of resource: unknown

Can anyone help me to interpret this?

Tia.

dpkg -S libXt.so.6 on my machine yields the following:

xlib6g: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6
xlib6: /usr/lib/libc5-compat/libXt.so.6

Since I'm running the libc5 version of netscape, I had to install the
xlib6 package in order to get the libc5 based version of libXt.so.6. If
you're running the libc5 version, you will probably have to do the same.

Well, on my system, /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 is just a symlink:
  $ ls -l /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Jul 2 19:42 /usr/X11R6/lib/li

  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 301884 Jul 1 15:05 /usr/X11R6/lib/li
  bXt.so.6.0

linXt.so.6.0 is the real file. Check if this is so on your system, and if
you have it. If not, you should install the xlib6g package.
  $ dlocate -S /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6.0
  xlib6g: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6.0

additional Netscape error symptoms - Xlib: unexpected async reply

1999-08-13 Thread Daniel Barclay

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Sometimes Communicator will pop up an error message window so small that
the only thing visible is the window manager's frame around it.

When I expand the window, it has about a dozen copies the following
message:

Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence xxx), Netscape:
   subprocess diagnostics (stdout/stderr)

This is inevitably followed by another vanishingly small window, with
another bunch of the same type of message.

Communicator quickly proceeds to becoming unresponsive. (I think
sometimes I can quit and get any changes (e.g., bookmarks) saved
before it jams up.)

I have to add, that a plain "xhost +" is not that good if it comes to
security.
You should add a user name and/or a host name as least !

See the man page of xhost:

+ Access is granted to everyone, even if they aren't
on the list (i.e., access control is turned off).

RE: Netscape error

1998-09-25 Thread FRANCK . LEGALL
Hi,

This problem often occurs when somenone who is different from the person from
who opened the Xsession try to run an X application.: To run an X
application, you must have rights to dispay it. This can be done using
the xhost
command.

Sorry, my english is so poor that I am not sure to be really clear.

An example :
I open a Xsession with 'franck' loggin
I try to run Netscape as 'root', it doesn't work (root doesn't have
rights to display on franck loggin screen)
As franck, I do 'xhost +'
Now, I can run and display netscape as root.

Hope this help
