a decent alternative is to use a package manager called synaptic. should do
the job also.

apt-get install synaptic

i just tried it on my machine and it didn't work either.  from 
command line, it said it was missing libdb.so.2 which used to be 
provided by libc6 but is not in the version of libc6 now in unstable. 
 
apt-get install libdb1-compat (from unstable) restored my kpackage.
