I've installed qmail manually since 0.91 (I think) without any
(unfixable) problems, under Slackware and Debian.

Can you send the output of qmail-showctl to me or the list? And the
corresponding lines in /var/log/mail.log?

Check the permissions of the user's home directory. It should be
something like:

% ls -ld ~
drwxr-xr-x 54 careycarey5120 Aug 23 17:02 /home/carey
% ls -ld ~alias
drwxr-xr-x 6 aliasqmail1024 Aug 14 20:46 /var/qmail/alias

You could also try the qmail mailing list. They're more likely to
have encountered this before.

qmail should (does here) work without anything in /var/qmail/users.
Did you use the package available from project/experimental, or are
you installing it manually?

Try the tests in qmail's INSTALL document and see how far you get.
Also try posting the output of qmail-showctl.

I don't use qmail, but I'm sure it needs a user called `alias'. Do you have
that user?

Qmail user alias

1997-08-20 Thread Bruno O. M. Simoes
Hi;
I'm trying to install qmail, but it still doesn't send to local users.
I tried to creat a /var/qmail/users/assign trough qmail-pw2u, but it
doesn't accept my passwd entries:
"qmail-pw2u: fatal: unable to find alias user"
Does qmail use some kind of alias?
Do you have another idea?
Thank you
Bruno
