Hi,
I found that Cyrix was NOT the cause of my problem.
I have bad memory chips. As soon as I switched the
memory everything is working fine. By the way, I think
with help of set86 utility and a good fan -- that processor
runs even cooler than a 100MHz Intel (IHMO).
As far as clocking -- I have Cyrix 150 -- my motheboard
supports 66, 75, 83 MHz bus speed -- so I choose
75Mhz for the MB speed and 2x for the chip speed --
it all works out OK.
As I side note -- I put the bad memory into Intel P100 machine
running NT -- after a couple of hours of working it crashed the
machine in a way that I have reinstall the whole OS (one
startup dll is missing or corrupt).
Is there a program for Linux (or DOS) that will detect bad memory?
Regards,
Vladislav

Hi Al,
Thanks, you might well be right. I didn't even think of the heat Cyrix
generates and the problems it causes.
BTW I have a 486/66 here at work and I too got sig11 problems one morning
just after I had turned the machine on. After it had warmed up a bit, the
problem was gone. Weird hey? Now I just leave the machine on overnight -
better for my cron jobs too.
It was actually Vladislav Papayan x285 [EMAIL PROTECTED] who had
the problem. You may want to inform him also :-)
Whoops, thanks. I meant to hit reply all.
Hope this helps Vladislav...

I also found a utility that seems to tune Cyrix processors. It is
called set6x86 -- it looks very promising as it can tell the processor
to go into a special low consumption mode when it is on HALT
instruction
(which is 90% of the time).
It will cool the processor and probably elongate its lifespan. But it has
no relation to your problem AFAIK.
Luck,

My experience is that heat can definetely cause these types of problems.
Cooler the better...
Also, you said this was a P200 Cyrix, I think that should actually be
clocked at 166Mhz, the P200 is just a marketing gimick. Make sure you have
the right speed.
Good luck,
