'apt-get clean' deletes the whole cache and
'apt-get autoclean' deletes only the files from the cache which aren't
downloadable anymore. See the manpage of apt-get for further
information.

Look at "apt-get clean" and "apt-get autoclean". They do slightly
different functions, so you decide which is more appropriate.

apt-get autoclean

This will remove all older package versions.
