It's not what you meant, but sometimes I use ls -ot /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.md5sums | head -20 I did something similar to this a while back by putting a wrapper around 'dpkg' that used 'logger' to log the commandline arguments with which dpkg was called. Braindead, but at least it gave me an idea of which packages were installed when.
