You mean guru.com? Thanks for the input Steve. Guru.com is interesting to see if it works and how it works. But of course I would like to see it implemented in a FOSS way. s. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [OT] FOSS Marketplace
The idea which came to my mind some time ago was to establish a marketplace where "geeks" meet "normal" users. You invented the mailing list? That' s not what I meant. By the term "normal" user I am thinking of someone who sees some advantages of using a computer but does not want to make his living out of it. Therefore that person maybe is willing to spend some of his wage to the other person who loves computers and therefore will solve tasks somewhat faster than others. And one last point: Think as well of small companies as customers rather than of yourself who of course is embedded in a network of friends who know a lot about IT to. These are used to help new users install a free operating system. But it has also included other things: - help a user solve an existing problem - mull over the latest in FLOSS developments over a (root)beer. - ask for advice about hardware - expand and reinforce the community aspect of FLOSS - etc. Since supposedly every family uses Vista and has some relative to 'support' the family PC, it has always been part of the mission to have some local community to support those folks who use FLOSS. I suspect this is a patently false postulation and a good mind-set to get out of. Proprietary software is just as often harder to configure than free software, proprietary software has everything to lose if they don't lie about this up front. > The idea which came to my mind some time ago was to establish a marketplace > where "geeks" meet "normal" users. This kind of idea has been pitched before and largely rejected as: 1) Redundant. We already have mailing lists, as well as consultants to do this already. 2) Stupid. Who would be willing to sit through that many RTFM questions all day every day to make such an idea actually work? If the proprietary software world is any indication, you'll have a hard time paying people to do this for very long, or quickly run out of money trying to keep quality people who can help on board. -- Paul Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Explaination of .pgp part: http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Mail/rant-gpg.html signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
