There are some other dovecot packages which seem to be new to Wheezy

Hm, not sure --- I've always been thinking that dovecot is an MTA that
would replace exim4 (or another MTA) when installing it to use the IMAP
part. Now it's obvious when looking at the packages that the IMAP part
can be used without the rest of dovecot. Either I've been mistaken for
a long time, or something has recently changed, and really I wonder
which is the case ...

Yes. I use Exim to deliver mail to MailDir directories and Dovecot to
provide access to then via IMAP.

And does the IMAP part support MH?

It doesn't. There's a handy table with programs and supported mail
formats at http://wiki.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat (I can't vouch for the
accuracy of the information).

BTW, mutt supports MH. That might be easier to use than gnus for this
purpose.

I am using kmail on several computers. For synchronizing E-Mails I am using
unison with unison-gtk, which just synchronises my ~/Mail directory.

I read, that most MUA are using ~/Mail for their e-mail storage, so it might
work among different mail clients as well.

Good luck

Why don't you just copy the mail storage from one computer to the other
with rsync or some other software that allows to copy files from one
computer to another?

You could use gnus to do that. Just set it up on your real laptop, copy
the mail storage from the spare one to some directory on the real laptop
and incorporate the new mail into the old storage. You can also do it
the other way round, i. e. copy the more recent storage from the spare
laptop to the real one, set up gnus to use it and incorporate your old
mail into that storage. You can also have several storages if you want
to and/or create virtual groups out of mail from the old and the new
storage.
