Most of the time, a so-called expert mode is usually just a euphemism for more options, but the Debian installer expert mode actually requires that the user have a decent understanding of the Debian installation process. For example, after configuring networking and selecting the desired Debian repository, users are prompted to decide which installer components they would like to download. Many users will have no idea whether they need or want to use the esoteric CDROM drivers, EVMS module for debian-installer, or if they should load the debconf preseed module. The rule if you don't know what it is you probably don't need it applies. The installer always had good defaults in such cases. Sometimes, I get stingy and stick to business card ISO (which is still smaller than the netinst). Most importantly I want the installer to have the option to install the bootloader to the partition itself and not the MBR. when I tried w32 installer it didn't gave me the option. Hope somebody else will help you here. IIRC, there is an option for this when you select the Make system bootable option in the installer. -- Mahesh T. I don't understand what do you mean with install the bootloader to the partition itself a bootloader can only sit in the MBR to be useful. Basically I want to install linux as desribed here: http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-33598.html While installing linux, make sure you install the bootloader (Lilo/Grub) to the bootsector of the partition that you install it on ... NOT on the MBR. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? It's possible the above question does not appear in a normal install, you might want to use expert mode or just use the Back button, it will take you to a menu with all installer steps and as far as I recall switches you to expert mode ;) Regards, Andrei -- Offtopic discussions among Debian users and developers: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/d-community-offtopic signature.asc Description: Digital signature
