I had the same problem but the param switch didn't work.

Instead I had to install in expert mode and simply de-select yenta_socket.

I had the same problem too, with a different laptop, and this solved the
problem for installation, but then I had to fix some things:

I've seen similar messages before referning to PC Card devices.  Is the drive 
on a PC Card Bus?

I used to need the noapic command to boot an older laptop at one time to boot 
successfully. I don't know what the problem is but that may help.
