I don't know of a mp3 player that can use NAS though. I have festival set up here to announce important incoming email. Sometimes I will have 3 or 4 voices talking at once on my system, all mixed together. :-) -- see shy jo, festival maintainer

I still think the device driver should do this though, completely transparently from user programs.
