Use JetAdmin for what it's good at (administering JetDrects), and add printers in CUPS using the normal interface. Perhaps it's my misunderstanding - but I thought the jetadmin service would act as a print server - so it would provide the connectivity to CUPS and the rest of the network. I know that CUPS can connect directly - using the hpdirect protocol - but I thought I'd get better results the other way. I've been having intermittent lockup/timing issues with CUPS - both when locally connected via parallel and via network - and I was hoping jetadmin would help that. BTW - the printer I'm using is a 2500CM. I never had any issues when directly connected to a gasp Windows unit - so I'm assuming this is somehow a CUPS issue. None of my other CUPS printers are showing problems like this one is. -- Daniel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: HP Web JetAdmin en Potato
Puedes configurarlos con telnet. Yo no tuve ningún problema. Saludos.
Re: HP Web JetAdmin en Potato
¿Otras Soluciones?

If anyone gets this going I would like to hear about it, also if they can actually print successfuly using linux to a HP printer with a direct ethernet connection. What kind of problems you have with printing ? I'm not sure about lpr, but lprng works fine by putting :lp=yourprintername.yourdomain%9100 We have hp jetdirect boxes with ethernet connections, but they use print through a novel net interface. I use nprint to print to these. Mark.

Re: HP Web JetAdmin
I got HP Web JetAdmin to work okay on my Hamm distribution, after making a few sym-links to make up for the differences in filespace layout. However, I tried it again with slink and it refuses connection. I wonder if there are some access permissions that changed default from the two distros'. Either that or I changed something on Hamm that I didnt replicate on slink (slink was a clean install). If anyone gets this going I would like to hear about it, also if they can actually print successfuly using linux to a HP printer with a direct ethernet connection. John. Kevin Cheek wrote: I was wondering if it is possible to get the HP Web JetAdmin software working with debian. I tried running the installer, but it seems to depend on the layout of a Redhat system in order to work correctly (the hp web page specifically mentions Redhat). I got several errors while running the installer. It seemed to want touch to be in /bin (it's in /usr/bin on my slink system) and it wanted to use init scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d (as opposed to /etc/init.d). I worked around the 'touch' problem, installed the software in /usr/local/hpwebjet and told it to use port 8010. The hpwebjetd daemon seemed to be running after running the installation script, but I was unable to connect to it using a web browser.begin:vcard n:Stevenson;John tel;fax:+31 20 34 22 820 tel;work:+31 20 34 22 820 x-mozilla-html:TRUE url:www.oa.nl org:OA Europe version:2.1 email;internet:[EMAIL PROTECTED] title:Technical Consultant adr;quoted-printable:;;Objective Alliance=0D=0AHoghilweg 14L;Amsterdam;Zoud Oust;1101 CD;Nederlands x-mozilla-cpt:;-11328 fn:John Stevenson end:vcard

It can act as a magicfilter, supports duplex-simplex selection and trays, gets page count etc. Wish someone had packaged it (don't have time myself) for debian. Sergey.

I tried; I got it to run to a degree but the services/rc was more than a small pain to fix. Re: HP Web Jetadmin
I cheated to install the Jet Admin package. I created a symbolic link inside /etc called rc.d which linked to the above directory, which was etc. The install was then able to carry on with no problem. I think I was even able to remove the rc.d link when the install had finished. I have not actually tested it on our printer (still waiting for the network card to arrive) but it runs okay inside netscape (Hamm distribution + Netscape 4.5 downloaded and installed with the Netscape Installer package).
