Re: Hard lock-up crashes, need some clues!
I don't know if this will help you any, but it's worth a shot: When mine was overheating recently, it was the RAM chips that were getting too hot. The way I figured that out is the side of the case right where the RAM chips are was quite warm to the touch. The chips themselves were too hot to touch except by the edge of the SIMM. Maybe the P233 is tired of running at 114% of the speed it wanted to run. On Mon, 6 Jul 1998 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well, I am overclocking my P233 to 266, and have been doing so since March or so. When I run Netscape and Enlightenment 13.3 I occasionally have this happen. Seems that NS does some things that eventually torque off E and X. netscape does weird shit. i've had it take down my X session a few times and occasionally (rarely) lock up the whole machine. what do you expect from commercial/closed-source software? :-( unfortunately, netscape is much better than any alternative - too bad it's so badly written. craig -- craig sanders -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null

Memory, hard disk, or overheating CPU. Also you might try a different kernel. A Pentium Pro optimized kernel with a Cyrix processor may also cause problems for some. As I recall I also had similar problems with the 2.0.30 kernel. /*** Running Debian Linux *** * For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, * * that whoever believes in Him should not perish...John 3:16 * * W. It locked up again when I was reading your replies for the first time, this was only about 10 minutes after the previous crash! This time there was no trace of any ^@'s in the logs. Now I have rebooted and so far so good. I have strace logging on Matlab and Netscape to see if they catch anything. Do you have heatsink grease between the heatsink and the cpu? If not the cpu can overheat while the heatsink remains cool. -- John Hasler [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Hasler) Dancing Horse Hill Elmwood, WI -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null
