What is wrong? And what can I do about it?

Sounds like the same problem I was having with my P133 machine. Turned out
it was bad memory, affecting the motherboard.
All tests from DOS worked, but not in linux. mine was a P133 with 430FX
motherboard, 16Mb ram, and a 2.5Gb Western Digital.

Hello all

I try to put the Debian distribution on a 486DX33 computer with 4 MB of
RAM.

However, when I put the first diskette (resue) in the disk and boot the
system all goes well until the following messages appear:
Patitition check:
hda:hda: status error: status=0x01 {Error}
hda1 hda2 hda5
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0

I have also tried to install Debian 1.2 onto a 486SLC2-66 with 4Mb Ram.
Sounds like a similiar problem. (4 Mb may not be enough ram to start install).
So I plugged my Hard drive into a 486dx66 with 16 Mb Ram.
Load all disk OK. Setup a 16 Mb swap file partition.
Plugged in back into the 486SLC2-66 4Mb ram and up it booted.
Works well although a bit slow with 4Mb Ram.

Regards Brian
