In /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins I made a symlink that points java2 to $JAVA_HOME and a link that points libjavaplugin_oji140.so to $JAVA_HOME/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji140.so Mozilla works fine. This is on a single use workstation. JAVA_HOME is /home/mental/java/j2sdk1.4.0/. The jre download from netscape was buggy for me as well. Thats what prompted me to use Sun's. Re: Java problem
I think in the readme for Java that you d/l you will see something that suggests you don't link the plugin rather you copy it to the ../netscape/plugin directory, instead of linking it. Usually its installed under /usr/local/netscape/plugins. Look for the readme file in the Java directory. sda wrote: > Hello: > > Just installed java blackdown, now neither mozilla or netscape will run. > Both did prior. > > The error I'm receiving is: > > "INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not load > /usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: linking > error=/usr/lib/j2re1.3/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: > XtShellStrings" > > How do I fix this - I haven't a clue. Argh! And I thought I could tell you something new. That's exactly what I tried (purging jdk1.1-native) and now it works. Thanks. Michael -- Michael Meskes | Go SF 49ers! Re: Java problem
sounds like this problem: http://kt.linuxcare.com/kt19991122_44.html#5 It was pointed out that the latest stable kernels break StarOffice (or rather the Java tool StarOffice depended on). Andrea Arcangeli asked Alan to back out of the stable tree the (purely semantic) patch that had caused the breakage. Alan replied, "Its a broken application, it opens a file that does not exist. Now it gets an error indicating a file does not exist. Getting a valid handle is a bug in my book. If it bugs you emacs their binary and change the format string." Juergen Kreileder replied regarding the Java tool, "I've fixed the problem several weeks ago, the new JDK will be released in a couple of days." nate On 28 Dec 1999, Michael Meskes wrote: meskes >Everytime I start a JAVA program (that runs fine on a SuSe machine with meskes >jdk-1.1.7v3) I only get the messages: meskes > meskes >Cannot open /proc/00525 for GCCannot open /proc/00534 for GC meskes > meskes >Of ocurse these files do not exist. Which version of the kernel are you using? There was something on Kernel Traffic about StarOffice's Java component dying on upgrade to a newer kernel - possibly 2.2.13. I can't find a reference to it right now, but you might want to try running 2.2.12. if you have potato installed, you can't use java, you have to go to slink (because glibc6), or wait jdk 1.2 who is in prerelease.
