I've never seen it at boot or to cause locks, nor experienced the keyboards failing after a period of time. I see just a ` character generated at random times while the machine/keyboard is in operation. If it's worth the $15 replacement cost, you *can* disassemble the keyboard and clean everything out, but you have to dry all the parts thoroughly before putting them back together. -- Karsten M.
