My named config files have entries more like

mail in cname colebrook.k12,nh.us.
academy in a 106.243.128.2

Perhaps that missing 'in' is your trouble?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here?  What is the IP addresses that
your system is resolving to?  What does your named.conf file look like?
