Re: New Gnome in Wheezy
You can't. You have to install a different DE. I went for XFCE, but people rate Mate. This is a sore point for a lot of people, but that's the simple options. let the flamewar commence On 10 July 2013 16:56, Ethan Rosenberg, PhD erosenb...@hygeiabiomedical.com wrote: Dear List - I updated and now have the new Gnome. You can alter the menu options by hitting super and typing main menu and you will surely find it. Extensions make it pretty damn good. It takes some getting used to. You can go classic with gdm (the login screen), just select a user and there is a little dropdown in the bottom left. It is a limited classic though, and kind of sucks. Personally I found that once I got used to it the benefits outweighed what I lost. There was a new way to do everything I might have thought couldn't be done. Re: New Gnome in Wheezy - more info
Kind of a typo on the name of mate deb package, no?! Someone shall say shutthafuckup sometime, but I'm very happy using slim + openbox + tint2 + i3lock. Not that I hated gnome 3 at first, but after a while of using it, I couldn't help but feel desperate with its huge memory consumption and its unclear relationship with unix philosophy/background. To migrating windows users, I usually install xfce and pick some apps from gnome. -- Luther Blisset GNUPG/PGP KEY: 6722CF80 I challenge you to play the game in which there is no loser but everything is fun and worthwhile! ---BeginMessage--- Personally I am using on my Desktop MATE .. here's how you will installing http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download On 07/10/2013 07:31 PM, John Tate wrote: You can alter the menu options by hitting super and typing main menu and you will surely find it. Dear List - I would like to try another modality to try to solve this mystery. How do I get to and use irc #debian-mate channel on FreeNode? I have never used irc befpre. TIA Ethan I'm not really an irc-guy, but this is what I know you, of course need a irc client I've used xchat before and it seems ok. * after you get that installed... * when you first start up it shows you a network list of servers. * find freenode on the list and hit connect button * after a few seconds it will ask if you want to join a channel, there you type in #debian-mate. * you should be onboard then. if you've never used irc before, you might want to google and read a little bit on IRC Etiqutte before you jump completly in Good Luck! mike
