Hmm here it does not find anything, but plymouth is in the initram

When looking for ttf
grep
ttf -r /etc/initramfs-tools /usr/share/initramfs-tools/ 
/usr/share/lintian/overrides
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/plymouth:  if
[ -e /usr/share/fonts/truetype/dejavu/DejaVuSerif.ttf ]

which brings me to the idea that I always wanted to look into this beast a
bit closer

lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img* | grep ttf$

yes I know and use it - much better than 80s dos style boot up screen,
but ... perhaps needs a check out of curiosity.

There can be many reasons why this package's post-installation
script may have failed. I don't think you have shown the full
output.

Running "apt upgrade" again will probably either repeat the action
or tell you what to type to repeat the action, so please do that and
show us the full output.
