Thank you all for the helpful suggestions. I'll take a look at the links you've provided. :) Kaixi

Other things are currently hard to control and appart for some tweaks that are mostly proof of concept at the moment and will require waiting. These include power saving on the GPU (graphics card) which needs support from the driver writers, mostly nvidia/ati/intel. Some are better than others. Another issue is turning off hardware such as wireless antena, bluetooth, usb, sata power saving, etc. Some of this you can do manually either by tweaking laptop mode, or try running powertop in a console and see what it sugests. One of the main things is not controllable yet under linux and that is turning off pci power. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". If it has a "u" then run "tasksel --install-task laptop" as root. Installing the laptop task will install the following packages: acpi-support hibernate acpi powertop apmd radeontool anacron wireless-tools cpufrequtils nvclock wpasupplicant vbetool acpid pcmciautils toshset bluetooth avahi-autoipd This will set up various laptop friendly utilities including advanced power management support. You can research what each package on this list does, of course, and pick and choose them on your own individually. Good luck! -- Chris

I bet that your Debian's power saving is not enabled by default. You've got to do some preliminary readings on that. E.g., http://xpt.sourceforge.net/techdocs/nix/sysmng/sm03-EnergySaving/ would be a good starting point. -- Tong (remove underscore(s) to reply) http://xpt.sourceforge.net/techdocs/ http://xpt.sourceforge.net/tools/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". That's really weird... I suggest you post your laptop's maker/model and whether you installed any specific packages or just chose "desktop" when installing. Maybe some program's doing a lot of I/O or something.
