This is the third or fourth time you have asked this question.  You _can_ use 
the i386 to install.

But those sectors sound bad.

How did you try to boot? What (if any) was the text output during the
boot process?

I don't see why not, but it's kind of hard to say without seeing your
laptop. Make backups first and don't remove your old operating system
if you plan to try putting it on.
