I've seen mirrors expire for one reason or another. Is there anyway to

Thanks.

I've been playing around with mirrors myself the last couple days so
it quickly/easily came to mind to try "backing up" your link there to:

http://mirror.cc.columbia.edu/

They have a bold text message that says:

"NOTE: Public use of this service is permitted but UNSUPPORTED! DO NOT
contact the CUIT Help Desk if you encounter problems with this site;
use the contact information below."

The good news is that they offer an email address at the bottom of
that same page. Its expressed purpose is for it to be used "[t]o
report problems or make suggestions" regarding the mirror(s).

Hope that helps! :)

In this context I intended generic to mean plain, bland, nonspecific,
uncharacterized, or maybe undifferentiated. Lacking a great word I
just said generic. It isn't country specific. It could be anywhere
in the world with a name like that. If it can be anywhere then
Murphy's Law says that it will be located in the worst place for you
to use.

I don't know what 'generic' means but, although it is from a couple of
years ago, some advice on using ftp.debian.org is at

   http://wiki.debian.org/ftp.debian.org

At present it appears to be located in the Netherlands.

I suspect your mirror site is broken.

Instead of the really generic ftp.debian.org use a country specific
mirror. That should solve your problem and also speed up your
connection. For example I use ftp.us.debian.org. Here is a list.

  http://www.debian.org/mirror/list

That doesn't seem to match the line you posted from your source.list
file. Do you have any other files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* ? You
might. And those might be causing you trouble.

Try a different mirror site. Check for extra files in sources.list.d.

Any reason why you are using ftp.debian.org as an archive? Was it
offered as a mirror when you installed Squeeze?

I got the same type or error for mirrors.kernel.org, sent an email to

I switched mirrors, so it only affects some mirrors.

This seems to be a problem with the mirror itself, and hopefully to be fixed
(if not fixed already).

This issue has also been reported on the debian-mirrors mailinglist.

I emailed the KWLUG (Kitchener-Waterloo LUG) and some of the U.
Waterloo CS Club members are also members of the KWLUG. Anyway, here's
what Kyle had to say about it:

"Last week there was a power outage which forced us to shut off the
mirror. We shutdown cleanly, but for some reason there was an error
with the RAID array, so it has been rebuilding for the last few days.
You can check the progress on http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/.

We are still an official mirror, we are just experiencing some very
unfortunate downtime. :(

At the time of this writing the array rebuild is at 95%.

The official list of all public Debian mirrors is published here:

   http://www.debian.org/mirrors/list

If the mirror is listed here, which it does not appear to be, then you
should report problems with official public Debian mirrors on the
debian-mirrors mailing list. If the mirror is not listed, then choose
another one that is. It appears that the correct domain name is

   mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca

(Note the "u" in front of "waterloo", which is missing in your original
post.) I'm not sure if you made a typo when posting or if you left off
the u when actually trying to access the archive.

Release File Expired on: csclub.uwaterloo.ca

2010-09-22 Thread Mike Viau

Hello,

I am not really sure to whom I should inform, but it is my understanding that
mirror.csclub.waterloo.ca is (or at least was) an official Debian mirror in
Canada.

I am in no way affiliated with the Waterloo university or aware of a contact
for the mirror.

It appears as if their apt-repo has expired in some way?

After changing my sources to point to http.us.debian.org, the error went away
immediately.

I thought I should mention it hear, as I am hoping at least one of the more
enlighten Debian user might know whats going on, or what can be done to get the
mirror back up!

Thanks
